A dark past casts a deep shadow.
Evan Warlow is back in the saddle as a DCI, though he isn’t yet sure he deserves to be, and there are others who share his doubts.
When a brutal attack on two mountain bikers in the vast solitude of the Brechfa forest leaves one dead and the other badly injured, the hunt is on for the killer. And though the evidence points firmly in one direction, an open and shut case soon becomes murky and unclear.
It’s not the first time bad things have happened in these woods. Things that some have tried desperately to forget. But for the killer, it’s more a matter of unfinished business.
Unless Evan and the team can outwit a vengeful and clever murderer, someone else is going to die.
Caution Death At Work is the second book in the DCI Warlow series of fast-paced Black Beacons thrillers by Rhys Dylan. Set in the heart of wild Wales, this dark murder mystery populated by true to life characters will keep you guessing. Perfect for fans of LJ Ross, JD Kirk, JM Dalgliesh, and Simon McCleave. Celtic noir with a smidgen of dark humor.

An excellent British procedural

And while I was confident I had this one figured out early on, there was still doubt until the end.
I enjoyed it thoroughly and would highly recommend it.

Great plot, extremely captivating

The character work here is still good, but this time, the plot is tighter and more comprehensible as well. It became pretty obvious to me who the murderer was about 60% of the way through the novel, and the characters were still being written as clue free, but it was an entertaining (if rather depressing) plot in spite of that.
It's a police procedural mystery; there's nothing groundbreaking here. But it's done competently and I don't mind the time I spent.
Entertaining
