Publisher's Summary

During the 12th and 13th centuries, the Cathars in southwest France posed such a threat to Roman Catholicism that the Inquisition was tasked to destroy them.

Francois de Beaufort will lose the castle which is his inheritance, be horribly maimed in battle and see the woman he loves imprisoned and tortured for her faith. But he vows to fight back, to survive - and to rescue her.

Loved it!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Very much so if they appreciated the same era - it makes the Cathar sites that I've visited over the years so much more than just a pile of old stones.....

What was one of the most memorable moments of Cathar?

Difficult to pick out a single moment - the characterisations were wonderful throughout.

What does Peter Noble and Julie Teal bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Ironic perhaps, but they added so much meat to the bone.......

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Like that particular period in history, the whole I found was moving and lent weight to my belief that religion can simply be bad and a refuge for the hard of thinking and bullies

Deeply problematic

At first I thought would be a bog standard historical saga but when two women were portrayed as getting into relationships with their rapists with nary a second glance, I felt disgusted.

Enjoyable historical novel

A good mix of history and well rounded characters read from various viewpoints. Great narration which brought the characters alive
