Publisher's summary

Chef Wyatt Blake is finally ready to move on from his thankless job. He gets no wiggle room, zero praise, plenty of abuse, and on a good day, he might only spend 12 hours in the Terroir kitchens.

A friend of his recommends a private chef position, but despite the boost in pay, Wyatt doesn’t want to babysit some spoiled, rich LA family. Imagine his shock when the family isn't a Kardashian clone but Ryan Flores, the only professional baseball player to ever come out of the closet.

Ryan is also at a career crossroads. His team’s management wants to see his more responsible side, which means no more late-night hookups and no more adrenaline-charged stunts. When his agent suggests he find a fake boyfriend to give him an air of domesticity, he’s only reluctantly interested. Until, Ryan goes to a local bar and spies the cute private chef he’s supposed to be interviewing the next day.

Maybe a quieter life wouldn’t be so bad, as long as Wyatt is part of it?

Wyatt believes Ryan could be more than just a crappy boss, but he isn't sure about leaving the kitchen for the life of a professional boyfriend. Especially when he wants the reality so much more than the fantasy.

Catch Me is a contemporary gay romance, and while it is the second book in the Kitchen Gods series, it can be listened to as a stand-alone.

great!

I'm usually not a fan of the fake relationship trope but I liked how it was done in this book. Wonderful story! I'm looking forward to read the next book in the series. And the narrator was absolutely brilliant!

A great audio to lose yourself in.

Okay-I’m new to the Kitchen Gods series, but holy wow! Bolden has caught my attention with this series and this book is very engaging. I found myself absorbed in the dynamics and plot and even felt some strong emotions. Baker’s vocal talents show a great depth and bring these characters to life. Not one to be missed.

I’m definitely caught!

I loved this story! A little bit of fake boyfriend action except their feelings are too real even before they try to be fake. The characters were both complex and it made them so loveable. I just wanted to take them home and save them. Narration by Wyatt Baker was excellent as usual.

Enjoyable

Enjoyed the audio of Catch me By Beth Bolden! I liked the story a lot though it isn't my favorite of the bunch. Ryan just falls a little flat as a character for me...these books do continue to get better and better though so I do recommend this one! Wyatt Baker does a nice job narrating this.

The Chef & The Baseball Player!

A great fake to real relationship. I truly enjoyed the storyline from beginning to end and it’s a wonderful addition to the series. Wyatt and Ryan are spectacular together. They may start out pretending in order to help repair Ryan’s image, but they turn into so much more. I love watching their true relationship develop. They really make a great pair and I especially like that they take time to get to know each other. I can't wait for the rest of the series to come out in audio. The narrator does a spectacular job with the story and the characters. He truly pulls you right in. I voluntarily reviewed a gifted copy of this audiobook.

Faking it

With both Wyatt and Ryan at bit of a crossroads in their lives, they both need to make changes.
Wyatt for a better future and Ryan for job security.
When they embark on a world wind fake relationship together, feelings were bound to get involved.
The story is engaging, with good characters, nice humor and very little angst.

The narration was just okay for me. It was a bit flat at times and then picked up. A bit of a seesaw.
Overall, I did enjoy listening to this.

Just missing a little something

I wanted to love this book. I’ve heard great things about the series and this author and so nabbed it when I got the chance. I’m not saying it wasn’t a good book, it just didn’t appeal to me as much as I wanted it to.

Fake boyfriend is one of my favorite tropes, so I should have been thrilled. The meet-up was okay, but I never warmed up to Ryan, the out professional baseball player. I tried to like him but he was quite self-centered. It was all about Maseraties and Teslas and how he could spend his money. Aside from his aunt, I didn’t feel he had anything tethering him and his daredevil antics were a little over-the-top. There was room for growth with this character, but I feel he never quite got there.

Wyatt is a nice guy who needs money. He takes the job as Ryan’s personal chef despite the fact Ryan is a bit of a jerk. He wasn’t treated that well but he never really spoke up for himself. The near-disaster near the end of the book should have been a true wake-up call, but instead all was forgiven. I’m not sure I would have been so quick to forget the wrong done to me. Maybe that makes me petty.

There were some hot times in this book and the reader who is a foodie will be in seventh heaven. Or at least very hungry. I loved Wyatt’s grandmother and appreciated the relationship he developed with his brother over time. I was glad Ryan had his friend Tabitha – maybe he should have heeded her advice more often.

Wyatt Baker narrated the book and he did a commendable job. I always enjoy his performances as he’s a solid talent. This was a good book but it wasn’t my favorite. I will definitely try something else by this author, hoping my dislike of the book is an outlier.
