great and funny story

good voices and pacing. it has some very funny events and characters.. I like the building and crafting abilities.

Localization has too much “zoomer slang”

I really enjoyed this story. It has a fun overpowered MC and some slow burn romance. I’ve read the manga so I’m familiar with the overall story. Sadly the localization of the light novels used a lot of “zoomer slang” - I’ve read / listened to a lot of Japanese light novels and haven’t come across this much before.

My only complaint is that they didn't give this title the affect it deserves to have a male and female voice actor reading it.

There are plenty of titles in similar genres that get that dual gender voice acting treatment, ones that are admittedly very popular. Unfortunately, whoever assigned this title it's audio debut decided not to spring for two people instead of one. I found out an audiobook was coming out and I really wanted to hear how Lefty and the other ladies sound with the peculiarities that their voices have in context to what they're saying, something lacking from a male trying to sound female rendition.

The other thing is, I kind of pictured Yuki sounding more like the voice actor from Reincarnated As A Space Mercenary, someone who sounds "wicked" and ok with it, not just some dude from next door. Don't get me wrong, this voice actor was very good and I appreciate that we have an audiobook at all. This just feels like audibly, a miss in that department.

Lost in Translation

The story itself is fine, but woefully translated and localized. The use of frivolous memes and cursing without consideration for the story itself is off-putting and unnatural. I'm pretty easy to please when it comes to isekai content since I'm well aware it's not exactly high brow material, but altering the interpretation through localization harkens back to the days of 4kids when Pokémon was referring to rice balls as "jelly filled doughnuts". The readers themselves do a fine enough job, but they're held back by the translation.

Bad Story

Having read the comic spin off, the English light novel is rough, crude, and likely poorly translated. The main character sound as if he lives as trailer trash in rural America rather than a reborn urban Japanese otaku. He swears a fair amount throughout with none of it funny or improving the storytelling. There is also poorly translated gamer and Japanese pop culture mistranslations leading to the believe that some of issues are the translator not understanding the context.

There is little to recommend this title unless you like reading about selfish gutter trash.
