Publisher's summary

Peacetime can be a rough adjustment for the battle-hardened Merry Band of Pirates.

Especially when aliens don’t get the memo that the shooting is over.

Disappointing

This book was disappointing but RC Bray was great. The story is disappointing. I feel that the last few books have a trend. One book is great then the next book is a setup for the next book. The setup book is disappointing. I thought previous book Critical Mass was a great book then this book is just a setup for the next book. It was a waist of time to pre-order this book. The author should not waist a whole book just to setup the next book.

1/2 of the book can be thrown out

A good 1/2 of the book is boring with filler material. Had an extended shore leave/romance plot that was just boring and could have been compressed. The whole plot can be summed up with the last few chapters, and the major plot was dragged out over a few chapters to the point where it just was a deus ex machina dragged out for too long. Nothing in the beginning was a foreshadowing nor did it contribute to the main plot.

Lecture

This feels like a lecture for someone else and I had to sit through it for some of the story I came for.

Can't get enough of this series!

This is by far the best audio book series on Audible. Every book is fantastic. Skippy and the entire Merry Band of Pirates are some of my most favorite characters in all of literature! I hope the series never ends.

meh

Well performed.
The story is very compartmentalized over all. If you listen to the first 23 chapters, it's a relationship book. If you skip to chapter 24, the book is what you'd expect from the series, and the two halves don't meet up.
The expected wit is there, and I actually laughed out loud at a couple jokes, that was enjoyable. Like the last book, I really get a sense that the story has grown stale for the author, or he has serious insurmountable distractions. Shame really.

What a downgrade

I’ve been an ardent fan of this series since the first book, but this...was disappointing to say the least. I understand you want to further develop your characters, but not at the cost of it being a sci-fi book. 75% of the book is just MEH

Feels like Columbus day again!

Already from the start it had different vibe then last couple of books, that's obviously great because for some time already Expeditionary force series is repetitive, boring and unimaginative. This feels like beginning again, plot is believable, conversations meaningful and plausible. Even the Skippy vs Bishop jokes are kinda cool again. So far I'm pleased whit the book after 4h of listening. Recommend, in opposite of last few from this series.

Definitely worth your time !

It just came out and I binged listened ! One of the better books in this series. Made me laugh out loud so many times. I enjoyed the cliffhanger at the end (unlike book 9) so I know the series will continue . The cast of characters makes this series great ! If you have never listened to this series , start with book one (chapter 10 is where it gets good) and move forward through the books from there- I look forward to more books and I am impressed that they continue to be well worth the time to listen. During this Pandemic, this series has truly saved me. Thank you Craig Alanson and R.C. Bray - you are both incredible people and the world is better with you in it !

Snoozefest

Half of the book is basically a novela about Joe and Adams. Also added pointless sjw scene that didn't even make sense. Wouldn't have cared if it actually made sense in context.

Review

Overall the performance was great enjoy the narrator as always. Unfortunately there was very little progression to the story which is somewhat disappointing.
