Read Again

I read/listened to Breakaway again and have changed my mind on my review. This installment seems on a par with Landon's earlier ExForce books.

Could have been better.

This book felt more like a continuation of Brushfire than its own story and failed to progress the plot in any significant way. There was no progression in the Elder story line and almost nothing has been said about them for the past two books. I really want to know more about them and throughout the rest of the series its felt like hints of them in the story was going to add up to something and now they just feel forgotten. The story itself is fine, Skippy is still Skippy but the banter between him and Joe at some points in the story feels kind of forced and not as fluid as in previous books.

Swashbuckling space adventure!

I've enjoyed every book in this series, but this book was very satisfying, and often hilarious. I have to give a lot of credit to the audio team for really bringing the characters to life. So fun.

Plot less well thought-out than previous books

The strategy that our heroes pursue in this book is pretty dumb; it's totally unrealistic that a handful of warships would ever have allowed Earth to protect anyone from the more advanced species. The author should have come up with something more plausible. I also thought having Joe ridicule representatives of the advanced species to their faces was pretty weak; if you're in a position of power, you have nothing to lose by being polite, because angering someone pointlessly can often make them act irrationally, which usually works poorly for everyone.

another excellent read

I didn't hear anything about the next book I hope it is coming soon. I truly enjoy this series.
