Publisher's Summary

Most women don't want to hear about breast cancer unless they have it and need to make some decisions, but these days news about breast cancer - the number one killer of women ages 20 to 59 - is everywhere. Hope for a cure abounds. Celebrities have come forward to share their experiences and raise awareness. Chances are you know someone who has had it.

But did you know that you make choices every day that bring you closer to breast cancer - or move you farther away? That in the majority of cases, cancer isn't up to fate, and there are ways to reduce your risk factors? That many of the things you've heard regarding the causes of breast cancer are flat-out false?

There have been few solid guidelines on how to improve your breast health, lower your risk of getting cancer, optimize your outcomes if you're faced with a diagnosis, and make informed medical choices after treatment. Until now.

Breasts: The Owner’s Manual will become an indispensable and valued guide for women looking to optimize health and minimize breast illness.” (Debu Tripathy, MD, Professor and Chair, Department of Breast Medical Oncology, University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center)

MUST READ

Every woman and young teenager should read this book. I even asked my husband to read it. I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and this helped me navigate the confusing waters. It opened my ears to many options available and allowed me to formulate questions to ask the medical care teams whom have been carrying for me. Buy this book for every woman or young woman in your life, you won't regret it. It can be overwhelming with statistics and studies but it is a great resource. I do not normally rate books but this is an important one. I have purchased and given away about 12 of these books. Thank you Dr Funk for putting this book together, it couldn't have been more timely in my life!

Good for the average woman, not necessarily for those with breast cancer or a genetic predisposition

The book is fine, it’s really educational. I just feel like personally we should have known in advance that it’s not really tailored for people who are genetically predisposed to breast cancer or those who already have or had breast cancer. It seems like the first 80% of the book is about preventing breast cancer through things like diet, exercise, vitamins, etc. which is kind of annoying to the other parties I just mentioned as those prevention steps can’t outweigh genetics or existing cancer.

Wish I had and knew of all this before

This book has really helped me learned more of my new me. Having be diagnosed with breast cancer one year ago, would go yearly for my mammogram went in thinking ohh well here I go again to get my boobs squezed for my yearly test. Test came back positive on one breast, next I was told there was more, ending up having a DMX ending with radiation. This has been overwhelmingly dramatic for me not knowing how and why this happened. Reading this book i learned a lot and even things I wish I knew before. Today being cancer free I am thankful but more thankful for this book the news and reassurance to know I am not in this alone brings great relief. Ladies we are not to assume it wont happen to us but we can take care it doesnt and if you read this book you will learn. Pink Sisters we love you all. Thank you Dr. Kristi Funk

Great content, horrible narration!

Really wonderful content! As a breast cancer survivor I’m thrilled to have all this info in one place; I’ve spent countless hours researching what’s already in here. I have the book and found the information so engaging that i didn’t want to put it down so I ordered the audiobook so I could get through the book quickly. Unfortunately I find the narration so annoying that I just can’t do it. I feel as though she’s narrating a children’s book. I guess back to the physical book when I can...bummer.
