One hell of a man and father.
Teaching his children how to survive before TSHTF.

The story line was captivating.

I binged all the books in this series within a week. I enjoyed the story line and couldn’t wait to hear what would happen next.
My disappointment of the series is all the “word salad”. It’s as though the author needed to extend the length of the books with empty self talk mostly Ben but eventually all the characters. I would tune it out and not miss a thing quite a bit which saddened me.

Standing together

I want to tell you this is well worth the reading. I went through the whole series on edge of my set! The ups and downs of their journey was exciting at times and scary. Makes me wonder if I was in the same situation would I be able to be that strong and courageous.

Writers knowledge and fine details are excellent.

I love the the way he writes. And I love his narrator. Best series I have listened to.

The Dark Road series is a really good series. Makes you think about what if's.

exactly what I expected

I think about stuff like this. former California boy from silicon valley now living in seriously rural Virginia. I figure I'm one of the ones that's going to survive last 20 years. all I've done is to try to be self-sufficient and with all the crap that's going on in the world nowadays, I think that's important. this book while fiction sure brings out how important that can be

Humanity devolves quickly

Many people who have never camped don't realize how hard survival in the Mother Nature is. Drinking unclean water or getting a cut and not having a way to clean it can cause life threatening infections. Then you throw in wild animals and the weather and you realize how fragile humans truly are. Ben and his group face all of this and more besides the capacity for evil inside each of us. This book was the cumulation of a crazy journey that I really enjoyed and would recommend to everyone.

good characters and energetic adventure

I like the morality of the characters in conjunction with the reality of having to do hard things to survive. This isn't one of those hard core apocalypse stories that can be more depressing. It's more like the hero adventure stories. More fun than heartache.
