Publisher's Summary

A hiker finds a journal deep inside a glacier that was lost during World War II. On its frozen pages are etched the secret locations of treasures lost since the 1940s. But something more ominous is scribed in the journal - something that threatens the Presidency of the United States.

Jake Pendleton and his new partner, Francesca Catanzaro, work for an "off the books" intelligence firm and are summoned to the White House where they are instructed to locate and acquire the book. Jake soon realizes there are others on a quest to find it as well. Others who will kill to get to it first.

Now one of my New Favorite Authors

If you could sum up Breach of Power in three words, what would they be?

Action. Suspense. Fast-paced.

What does Scott Brick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Again , Scott Brick brings life to any story.

Any additional comments?

This is a really good follow up to "The Toymaker". I have listened to all three in the series consecutively and can not wait for Chuck Barrett to write another. I figured out the mystery about 1/2 way through but the ride to the end was thrilling

Pursuing suspense, the story was lost

It is an OK read if your just looking for s suspense novel. Unfortunately the story loses believably. To much for the sake of sensationalism. You will find yourself saying "really" this is just stupid.

It has its moments...

The story and style is right along with other novels such as Brad Thor. The story is good and the mystery does play along well. Narration with Mr. Brick is awesome as expected. I enjoyed the story and would recommend this if you like the action, mystery type books.

A different, but outstanding, espionage novel!

In Book 3 of the series Jake Pendleton has moved to a job with a company that sub-contracts to the US government and he has a new partner, Francesca Catanzaro. Their assignment is made by the president of the US. The centerpiece of breach of power is a book from the WWII period found in ice in the Alps. The content of the book threaten the life of the president of the US. Others are also seeking the book and they are willing to kill to get it.

Breach of Power is a truly outstanding thriller made even better by Scott Brick's narration.

Career as a mortuary employee on hold...

Would you listen to Breach of Power again? Why?

I don't listen to audio books more than once. At least, I try to avoid it.

Would you recommend Breach of Power to your friends? Why or why not?

Only if you like these types of sprawling action thrillers. It is classic for the genre, but not exceptional.

Which scene was your favorite?

The resolution in the mortuary was fascinating, as much for the drama and family politics as anything else.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Some of the graveyard scenes are fascinating.

Any additional comments?

The story is a bit messy, the characters clear but sometimes illogical. The background is interesting, and the resolution is clean. On balance, a decent offering in this thriller genre. The Scott Brick performance is good ( although sometimes abit flat ) and, on balance, this isn't a bad use of a credit.

I hope this series continues!

Imagine, if you will, that hoards of stolen Nazi treasure was shipped to the US in the caskets of young soldiers who had been maimed beyond recognition. Imagine also that a journal exists as to the names and whereabouts of these soldiers. To what lengths would someone go to find the journal and retrieve the treasure? Another intriguing read from Chuck Barrett. All I can say is that I hope there will be more of Jake Pendleton. 5 stars.

A Fun and Exciting Thriller!

Chuck Barrett always writes suspenseful novels. This one may be my favorite. It's complex, with many parts brought together at just the right moment. Lots of twists and surprises kept me tuned in for hours. Featured character, Jake Pendleton, gets better and more likable with each story. Don't miss this one! Can't wait for the next one.

Georgia town

The narration would have rated 5 stars had Scott Brick taken the time to learn the correct pronunciation of "Dahlonega."

Rather disappointing

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Not reading it, then I would still believe Barrett was a worthy author to spend my time and money on one of his books.

Has Breach of Power turned you off from other books in this genre?

Not from this genre, but from Chuck Barrett

Which scene was your favorite?

???

What character would you cut from Breach of Power?

a Navy Seal was inept in a fight

Any additional comments?

How in Mr. Barrett imagination could he pit a Navy Seal against a 35 year old women who bested him swimming while diving with scuba gear, a 60 year old undertaker who beats him up, a 70-80 year old women who sneaks up on him and gets the drop on him and an obese old woman who first, sneaks up and knocks him unconscious and then beats him in a wrestling match. It's an insult to all Special Forces. Take a lesson from Jack Reacher, The Grey Man and most heroes of this genre. We read such books to not see an inept soldier.

I'm guessing you won't publish this one...

Breach Of Power-This Book Is Good!

I really enjoyed this book, with it's twist at the end.

The reader was so clear, I didn't ever have to think twice about what he had said.

Try it!

Frozen Secrets

A journal is found next to a frozen cadaver in a glacier. What's in the journal? How does it relate to a series of grave robberies throughout the USA and will it mean the end to a US President?

There's a very tense, atmospheric underwater chase that would be ace in a Bond film, good listen.
