Knowing the impending New England winter could be the final nail in his coffin, Greg packs what little food he can find and sets off on his 100-mile walk north with the unwavering belief that his family is alive and will join him.

As the fast-moving and deadly disease strips away family and friends, Greg's father, John, is trapped in South Carolina. Roadblocks, a panic-stricken population, and winter make it impossible for him to get to his son. John and his three brothers appear to be immune, but they are scattered across a locked-down United States, forced to wait for the end of humanity before travelling to the mountains of New Hampshire.

Spring arrives, and the Dixons make their way north to find young Greg. They meet others along the way, slowly forming the last tribe of humanity from the few people still alive in the Northeast.

Not your usual post apocalyptic story

Nice to experience a story that’s not all gloom and doom. I liked it and could really get into the characters.

Can't wait for part 2!

The story is great for PA lovers. No Zombies, or killer robots/aliens though. Great story!

SO sad to say good-bye to the characters

Like other reviewers have already said, this is a different kind of dystopian novel because nothing really bad happens. Well, other than the end of the end of civilization, of course. The pandemic strikes, a lot of people die...but the survivors, for the most part, end up becoming better versions of themselves. And yet, the story draws you in. You root for these people. You grow attached to them. And, when it's over, you hate to see them go. I hope there's a sequel...even though I doubt that it will be as engrossing as this one. Scott Brick's voice was made for end-of-the-world novels. He's great as the narrator.

It's the most amazing gift anyone can give. I was flat on my back in inpatient care learning to walk and talk again after impact from a hit and run driver changed everything. The performer of this narration, Scott Brick (and Pat Fraley) showed me how when I had lost my abilities. One the scripts that kept me doing the exact work I dreamt of doing as a child stopped, one author took a chance on me. Scott Brick and Pat Farley showed me how!

I'm writing this because not only is Scott Brick the best known voice actor in audiobook history... he's also an authentic, kind, generous person and loyal friend!

The hit and run driver impact recently caused me to have blindness in one eye. Guess who has been encouraging... Scott Brick!

I highly recommend your listening to "The City of Mirrors" narrated by Scott Brick! He's proven himself be the ultimate voice of empathy and it's beyond extraordinary how perfectly he depicted its characters!

Ending

I really enjoyed this book and the storyline. The only thing I didn’t like is how it didn’t really have an ending, it just stopped.
