Dear Ida,
My boss is an egotistical, arrogant, cuff link wearing jerk.
I wanted nothing more than to throw my badge at his face and walk out the door.
But the heat of the moment took over...
We went too far...and I liked it.
Maybe I should just leave the city and change my name to spare myself the embarrassment.
Stop me now before I do it. Please.
Royally Screwed in the City,
Piper

Spoilers ahead: With that being said, this was an enjoyable story until the FMC gets upset at the MMC for wanting to sell the publishing business. The business was his father's company and the MMC has his own business and life. He's an architect. He shouldn't give up his dream job for a business that makes him miserable. The FMC was being selfish and unreasonable. Then, she called him out in a meeting in front of the entire company, interrupting him to do so. Completely inappropriate professionally AND personally. That moment dialed back my enjoyment of this story tremendously. That's not being a strong woman; it's being a jerk.
Speaking of being a jerk, the FMC also insists the MMC talk to her about his father when he communicates clearly to her he doesn't want to speak about it. Considering they hadn't had a discussion about the nature of their relationship yet, her pressing him to open up was, again, inappropriate.
Oh, the FMC also eavesdrops on the MMC while he's on the phone and has the nerve to get mad at him for being rightfully upset about it. AND she snoops on his phone while he's asleep. AND jumps to conclusions about what she sees on his phone without communicating with the man she supposedly is in love with. She's such a catch.
I didn't like the emails to, and responses from, Ida. I would have preferred inner monologues from the FMC to those emails. It just seemed ridiculous to me that a strong, independent woman needed advice from a stranger. Nothing wrong with needing advice, but the level of advice the FMC needed from a stranger didn't mesh with her character traits.
I'm giving one star for Troy Duran and one star for the entertaining banter at the beginning of the book. It's disappointing how downhill this book went after a promising start.
