Publisher's summary

In this sexy paranormal romance novel set in the world of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, number-one New York Times best-selling author J. R. Ward tells the story of two couples - both fighting to find love in the midst of the war with the Lessening Society.

A vampire aristocrat, Peyton is well aware of his duty to his bloodline: mate with an appropriate female of his class and carry on his family's traditions. And he thought he'd found his perfect match - until she fell in love with someone else. Yet when his split-second decision in a battle with the enemy endangers the life of another trainee, Peyton has to face the idea that his future, and his heart, actually lie with another.

Novo, as a female in the Black Dagger Brotherhood's training program, feels like she has to prove herself to everybody - and she has no interest in being distracted by falling in love. But when Peyton proves to be so much more than a rich playboy, she is forced to confront the tragedy that has broken her soul and closed her off from love.

As the two grapple with Novo's past and Peyton's present, another couple must contend with an erotic connection that is unparalleled - and potentially scandalous. Saxton, who has had his heart broken, discovers in himself a deep-seated attraction to Ruhn, a new member of the household. But will the other male explore the connection? Or will he close his mind and his heart to what could be true love...and cost Saxton everything?

As a lover of almost everything BDB of course I love this spin off series! It really doesn't feel like a spin off, it feels like a BDB book with new characters because the BDB crew are in all these books. The one thing I love the most about this series is the timeline, it takes place in the same time line as BDB so what happens in a Legacy book continues into the next BDB book and then the next Legacy book.

This book has two stories, Peyton & Novo's hate to love story and then Saxton & Ruhn's HEA. I will say this book had a lot of injuries which was crazy because it had a lot less fighting & BDB world story going on than most of this series. This one felt a lot more like a romance than usual and to be honest I kinda miss how normally the story jumps around between many plots, this one was really only the two love stories. Another strange thing about this book is the WARDen didn't really set up anything for the next Legacy book, either that or I didn't catch it. Usually her books have either a side story building up for the next book or some kinda of obvious situation that tells us who the next book will be about and I ended this one with no idea.
This book just left me waiting for The Thief!

Jim Frangione will always be BDB to me! I just wish he has stuck to his pronunciations from the first 10 books even if they weren't correct because that is how they are pronounced in my head now.

Authentic Warden

Our favorite author is BACK! I’ve missed her in the past couple of Brotherhood books, and this does not disappoint!! Purists will enjoy the humor, cadence, and speed of this story. No impossible personality flips here - enjoy Peyton & Novo’s sweet story, and the brutal truth of Ruhn’s horrible past.......get back on the JR Ward train with abandon!👍👍👌👏

Blood Fury

Gosh, how I have missed these characters I am so glad I re-listened to the first two books. It just made everything click and I kind of feel like I could appreciate Payton and Novo more because I did re-read the other books.

I always like Peyton’s bad boy/playboy ways. So getting his story for me was icing on the cake. Though I will say I never expected him to get with Novo.

In the other books they don’t allude to these two but; wow their attraction really is undeniable. I really think Peyton was just so hung up on Paradise that might be the reason we didn’t get that surge of attraction like we did with the other couples. And if I am being honest I kind of liked that they found that “it thing” together naturally.

Novo was always a character I wanted to get to know more about, my heart broke for her in parts of this book and you can see why she was so standoffish was the book goes on you can’t help but be rooting for her. I don’t want to say overcome her past by maybe make peace with it and letting herself feel what she feels about it and not keep burying it.

I am so very happy Peyton was someone she could open herself too completely, that was a special gift for sure.

Ahhh and that J.R. Ward is a sneaky woman if you’re a fan of the original BDB then you were sad that Saxton kind of got shafted we all were thinking that he really is a fine standing “male of worth.” And at the end of book 2 in this series, we see a spark of attraction between Ruhn and Saxton. Well having these other attraction going on made my heart so full of joy for both of these males. They both have been through heartbreak and finding love in maybe the most unlikely of places is kind of what BDB is all about or at least it is for me.
My heart is full of joy and I can’t wait for more books!!!!

Ahhh, Jim, you know a friend told me to try his narration again and I am so very glad I did because now I can’t think of anyone I would want to narrate these books. He is PERFECT for them.

Has Narrator Decided No Go on These?

New format with video game music throughout which at chap 5 I am still not comfortable listening to. main problem? Music, I think was an attempt to fix narrator problem. Narrator, who I have greatly enjoyed in the past, doesn't even try to distinguish between the characters and as they are all in sexual angst this is extremely confusing. Either this was rushed or narrator is showing he doesn't give a fuck. I think he's bored. Will keep you posted as I progress.

FREAKING music even continues when you pause it. Even a video game horse neighing and hoof clumping sounds. Does anyone care about this offering? There'd better be a horse coming up or I'll really feel ripped off.

They done you wrong JR Ward and her fans.

Blood fury

J.R. Ward continues with entwining the lives of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. I like the way she brings in new characters while weaving the old characters in her story. She used this book to help set up the fight that must come in the future. She can go in so many different directions with so many characters that I will continue to follow this series. Will one of the brothers cheat on his wife? Will the vamp that is detoxing find love? Will the trainees be ready for the fight to come and will lives be lost? And will we hear how the children of the brothers r growing and what paths they take (like Z’ daughter and the twins). This story can line can continue for generations. Thank you J.R. Ward for developing a story that can entertain for years to come.

LOVE IS IN THE AIR

Love love this book. Both stories were great. Rhun and Saxton and Payton and Novo. As always J R Ward can spin a great story. Love the brothers and all the fighters. Love all the stories.

Sheer Perfection!

I am in awe of the Goddess that is J R Ward. Her talent and masterful skill of the English language is truly a gift. She is by far my favorite romance author and for good reason, Saxton's story will break your heart and you will swoon and sob. You will want his HEA as much as I swear you want your own,. I finished Call Me By Your Name before this novel and there are similar themes. Ward's amazing turn of phrase and quick wit is throughout the work. [ I barked my coffee through my nose at an innocent question of what a normal custom for a human wedding was or not. ]. I have loved Novo from day one and wish I could hang with her, I enjoyed every second of getting to know this character and root for her HEA. Oh in case you are new to this world (lucky you to experience it all fresh!)-- the narrator is perfection as well.

I hate leaving the BDB world, but all good things must come to an end and I wait again for the Goddess Ward to gift us.

I'm happily listening to the Warden again.

Would you listen to Blood Fury again? Why?

Yes, well partially because the darn things only come out every year so I need a mental touch up on "where we left off" But also, love stories are comforting and it's joyful when we see them from the male point of view.

What did you like best about this story?

Someone said that it jumped around and it did, but I enjoyed this and was able to track pretty well, skipping from one snippet of life to the next, like a soap opera for the ears, was this book...

What about Jim Frangione’s performance did you like?

Mr. Frangione in an old hat in this world now. I think him NOT reading here would be jarring. He carries the weight of the world around with him now, giving the sometimes amusing ways that the Warden expresses both overwhelming rage, desire, and even sadness, a gravitas, that said by another, simply would not work.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I was touched at times, and I chuckled often; I found this book to be amusing and sexy.

Any additional comments?

I actually stopped reading the original series, it was getting too complex and I enjoy my stories a bit more relaxed. Then along came Legacy series and thank all the gods, I'm reading the Warden again and smiling. This is the best one so far, she's found her stride in writing shorter, stories for this world. Running two romances stories at once was great, since the "threat" in this story, while legit, and how they handled things also true to character of the world as written, wasn't going to fill the book as much as adding that second love story, so a twofer on the love front, yay!I enjoyed it. Pretty straightforward stories about young folks in love, the stupid thinking they do as a result, and how they get over themselves. Toss in some bullets, a few knives, and sex in two flavors.

I liked this book.
