Great story.

As a former Army helicopter pilot I thought it was a great story. Lots of stuff outside the cockpit.

Really enjoyed this book...

Where does Vietnam Saga: Exploits of a Combat Helicopter Pilot rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I've had a longstanding interest in aviation. If you're at all interested in combat aviation, then this would be a tough book to beat.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No. I prefer to break it up over a number of days.

Any additional comments?

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Highly Recommend Vietnam Chopper Pilot Experiences

I was provided this free review copy audiobook by the author or narrator." This review is for the audio copy of Vietnam Saga: Exploits of a Combat Helicopter by Stan Corvin Jr. and narrated by Jim Seybert. This is among the best Vietnam War books that I have listened to. It provided a point of view from a front line person whom I believed told it like it was. It told the story in a straightforward manner that didn’t pull any punched. It was also told in such a manner that early teens can listen to it without any vulgarity. That is not to say that isn’t a great deal of graphic violence described because, after all, it is a history of war and battles. The narrator did an outstanding job with the story. He helps make the story come alive in my mind. His tone and inflection were ideal. This is the first book I have listened to where he was the narrator and I will be looking for other books he has narrated. I highly recommend this book, the author and the narrator.

Thank you for sharing your story...

Vietnam Saga is the story of Stan Corvin's time in Vietnam as a combat helicopter pilot. First things, first. Many of these Vietnam memoirs are full of language. I've seen some reviews that didn't love this aspect. That doesn't personally bother me, but I wanted to say that this book doesn't have any bad language, so nobody should be offended.

Each chapter in the book covers a different story, though they're all intertwined in Mr. Corvin's time in Vietnam. Some of them are horrific (though it doesn't go into much gory detail and things are written very tastefully) while others are humorous. I especially enjoyed the chapter when Mr. Corvin went to the restaurant and met the King of Siam and his family.

Jim Seybert did a good job with the narration. He read the book with appropriate emotion where called for and had a nice cadence, and his voice was appropriate for the this book. There were a few spots where I could tell that the narration had changed because Mr. Seybert had obviously re-recorded a portion of the audio. This didn't really bother me though. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher for an honest review.

One of the best Vietnam novels. A classic!

I have listened to my fair share of novels, biographies, and compilations of war novels. By that I mean close to a hundred on Audible alone. Mr. Corvin's book is by far one of the best, most exciting, and enthralling accounts I have ever had the pleasure to read.

He was a Loach pilot, a gunship pilot, and his harrowing retelling of all that he experienced while serving in the US Army is, in my opinion, one of the rawest, truest, and no-bullshit accounts of the Vietnam war. Far from being a self-loathing, hyper-critical veteran, Mr. Corvin was and is a warfighter in the truest sense of that word. He did his duty, bar-none, every time.

This book is a page-turner and story after story surprises the reader as it takes them up to the very last days of combat operations in the war and beyond. Stan was one of the last 600 Americans fighting and flying for the CIA eventually in country and it amazed me how much went on in Vietnam after the great battles and operations of the 60s.

Eerie and electric come to mind, as I wished the story went on for hours longer. I am, however, grateful that his Saga did come to an end in Vietnam and he lived (barely) to tell his story. Do not pass this book up.

Excellent perspective on Nam chopper pilots

This is a down to earth, very realistic, work that gives the listener great insight into not only the Vietnam War, itself, but the inherent dangers and stress of chopper pilots over the jungles and paddies. Having lived through Nam and the times, this is an upfront and personal glimpse of the dangers and moral struggles faced by so many. The narration by Jim Seybert brought the listen to life. I would highly recommend this book to those that enjoy this genre and all that are curious as to the trials of air to ground combat missions.
