Publisher's Summary

Best-selling author Tom Bower reveals the power, passion and defiance of Prince Charles.

Few heirs to the throne have suffered as much humiliation as Prince Charles. Despite his hard work and genuine concern for the disadvantaged, he has struggled to overcome his unpopularity. After Diana's death, his approval rating crashed to 4 percent and has been rescued only by his marriage to Camilla. Nevertheless, just one-third of Britons now support him to be the next king.

Many still fear that his accession to the throne will cause a constitutional crisis. That mistrust climaxed in the aftermath of the trial of Paul Burrell, Diana's butler, acquitted after the Queen's sensational 'recollection'. In unearthing many secrets surrounding that and many other dramas, Bower's book, relying on the testimony from over 120 people employed or welcomed into the inner sanctum of Clarence House, reveals a royal household rife with intrigue and misconduct. The result is a book which uniquely will probe into the character and court of the Charles that no one, until now, has seen.

An amazing insight

Really glued to this, brilliant portrayal of royal life which left me totally certain it’s all true. Not much appears to have changed since medieval times as far as royal intrigues and machinations are concerned but these days thanks to great writers like Tom Bower we peasants all get to hear about it!!!

it's an extremely long newspaper article

I didn't finish it. it's poorly written, difficult to follow, and has a constantly urgent tone which doesn't sit well with a biography book.

What an insight

What a bunch of greedy self regarding Neanderthals this lot are

It really comes across how hyper indulged they are

With 900000 pound holidays and 1.5 million pound back ganders from the tax payers for their “charities “

Blimey it’s nearly made me a republican

Wow, God save the Queen

If this book is even halfway true please let the Queen live forever. It is hard to take to this man who is so blind to the real world and concerned that he be recognised for what really is an accident of birth. Arrogant, selfish and a bore, God help us all should he ever be King and his lazy sidekick become queen.

Much more impressed than I thought I would be

I was in two minds about buying this book, thinking it would be another lot of spin but I have been very impressed by the detail and research that has been done. Lots of verifiable detail rather than random anecdotes as some of the Charles and Diana type books available.

It has certainly made me very concerned about Charles’ ability to rule as king and even more about Camilla and her role. I am certainly not a Diana fan and have always felt sympathy for Charles in this saga but now I have real doubts about the Monarchy once we lose our wonderful Queen.

Fascinating and Appalling

Heaven help us when Charles becomes King. He’s pampered and doesn’t live in the real world. A vain man who has only self interest for himself and his wife. A fascinating insight and well researched.

God help the Monarchy

What an excellent book. Very interesting. The Prince of Wales is clearly a hateful man. He is a sorry excuse for a human being and as for that dreadful creature he's married to, well, words fail me. God help the Monarchy if he acceeds the throne. We can only hope and pray that William will be our next King. The more people who buy this book the better, everyone should know what a selfish, deluded hypocritical and thoroughly unpleasant man Prince Charles is.

God! don't save this king!

what an eye opener!!!!

if he does become king I think the monarchy is doomed!

What a whinging, churlish, self absorbed , idiot!.
I like the queen more now...what a shame for her putting up with that hypocritical moron for 70 years.

And as for Camilla calling Princess Diana, 'a mad cow'....I dispared. ..it was their underhand, deceitful behaviour that probably added to Diana's issues. ...

An astonishing story

I found the book quite long because I'm not familiar with many of the names.
It was well read however and interesting.
To the average person it is unbelievable how conceited and arrogant Charles is.
Even if 20% is true, I would resent having him as king. I hope Australia removes the Union Jack from our flag after Queen Elizabeth.
