When the newly qualified vet, James Herriot, arrives in the small Yorkshire village of Darrowby, he has no idea of the new friends he will meet or adventures that lie ahead.
From the author whose books inspired the BBC series All Creatures Great and Small, this first volume of unforgettable memoirs chronicles James Herriot's first years as a country vet, with the signature storytelling magic that has made him a favourite the world over.
Here is a book for all those who find laughter and joy in animals, and who know and understand the magic of wild places and beautiful countryside.
I found this a most entertaining book and enjoyed it right from the start, I watch the series on TV but this did not ruin the reading of this book. I will listen to it a few more times over the coming months.

I loved every minute of this book and will certainly enjoy more of his books
You can't teach an old dog new tricks! But then why would you want to?
Loved it, the pictureof the countryside, the animals and looking at a vets life with such humour were very entertaining.
Definitely worth a read. Funny and quality writing. Probably don't want to be eating whilst listening to this book at all!
The narrator Christopher Timothy does a great job with the accents and different voices. Great!
