Publisher's Summary

In this powerful reflection, President Jimmy Carter contemplates how faith has sustained him in happiness and disappointment. He considers how we may find it in our own lives.

All his life, President Jimmy Carter has been a courageous exemplar of faith. Now he shares the lessons he learned. He writes, "The issue of faith arises in almost every area of human existence, so it is important to understand its multiple meanings. In this book, my primary goal is to explore the broader meaning of faith, its far-reaching effect on our lives, and its relationship to past, present, and future events in America and around the world. The religious aspects of faith are also covered, since this is how the word is most often used, and I have included a description of the ways my faith has guided and sustained me, as well as how it has challenged and driven me to seek a closer and better relationship with people and with God."

As President Carter examines faith's many meanings, he describes how to accept it and live it, how to doubt and find faith again. A serious and moving reflection from one of America's most admired and respected citizens.

Jimmy Carter

Any additional comments?

Surprisingly difficult to understand because of Jimmy Carter’s southern accent. I was not at all expecting this from a former President of the United States. Other than that it was a decent overview of Jimmy’s faith. Too bad current Democrats don’t faith like Jimmy does. They should listen to his book and get back some values that they have lost.

Needed perspective in these times

President Carter writes and narrated with great wisdom, clarity and depth. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to him draw from his deep knowledge of theology, life of public service, and 93 years of life experience in a world which has changed dramatically. His reflections on how faith has moved him - and our society - through many difficult times thoroughly his lifetime admonish to all of us the importance of faith in our greatest ideals as a society such as peace and human rights.

The message of Jesus

This book is for anyone who aspires to be a better human being. It is both Christian and secular. Carter makes the case for loving one another the way that Jesus loves all of us, without dogma, but with empathy, and that our faith is realized in our faith in one another, to displace the despair that is all too prevalent.

Love This Man!

I have always admired Jimmy Carter. After reading this book (I have to admit glazing over through some of the scriptural references), I have even more admiration for this man...and his wife. He is truly a man of deep conviction. A person who stands for what is right. He is not to be bullied, even by those within his lifelong community...not even if it means financial ruin. Sometimes it is a bit difficult to understand the narration but, overall his story is one worth hearing. I wish we had more like him!

The title is not what the book is about...

This is a political piece basically Jimmy Carter speaking about his opinions as though they were fact.

This has little to do with faith and much to do with politics.
