Publisher's summary
The book led to a book tour, in the course of which, Susan reconnected with family and friends whom she had cut herself off from. She had given up on romance, but at the second reading of her tour she encountered the man who had sold her his house 24 years earlier, Dennis Stock, a world-famous photographer. Despite her many qualms about age and intimacy, they fell in love.
Critic reviews

Marina Willett, MD, has a problem. Her husband, Charlie, has become obsessed with H. P. Lovecraft, in particular with one episode in the legendary horror writer's life: In the summer of 1934, the "old gent" lived for two months with a gay teenage fan named Robert Barlow, at Barlow's family home in central Florida. Story
The complex, deeply binding relationship between mothers and daughters is brought vividly to life in Katie Hafner's remarkable memoir, an exploration of the year she and her mother, Helen, spent working through, and triumphing over, a lifetime of unresolved emotions. Dreaming of a "year in Provence" with her mother, Katie urges Helen to move to San Francisco to live with her and Zoe, Katie's teenage daughter. Katie and Zoe had become a mother-daughter team, strong enough, Katie thought, to absorb the arrival of a 77-year-old woman set in her ways....

In her best-selling memoir North of Normal, Cea wrote with grace about her unconventional childhood - her early years living in a tipi in Alberta with her pot-smoking, free-loving counterculture family. But her struggles do not end when she leaves her family at the age of 13 to become a model. Honest and daring, Nearly Normal reveals the many ways that Cea's unconventional childhood continues to reverberate through the years.

As Nadja's body changed and "began to whisper to the adults around me in a language I did not understand", their relationship grew tense.

Wonderful
I listened to this book on audible. I first listened to “chosen by a horse” so I had the background, not that it was necessary, but it was nice. I really loved listening to this book as much as the last. I think that having the right person to read a book is so important. Lorna Raver did a fantastic job conveying the sarcasm and whit that Susan wrote. Delightful!

Love it, even though I don't ride horses.
I love this book! I love the reader! I love how honest Susan writes. And I was surprised at how often her experiences aligned with my own. Multiple times I quickly turned my head in surprise, looking over at the phone with my eyes wide opened! Well paced, I was sorry when it ended. Now on to her first book! Happy it's the same reader!

Couldn’t get through it
The story started out well enough, introducing snippets of the author’s life and how it had contributed to her personality. However, she became increasingly tone deaf as she spoke of the privileged environment from which she came. The narrator also affected an upper class accent that became grating to the ears. I got to the last hour and had to quit.
