Meanwhile, my grasp on my inner dragon is as precarious as ever, and the entire future of the dragon species might hang on my ability to solve the curse that has plagued my people for a thousand years.

I have to get home. But the deeper into time I venture, the more I realize that going home might mean choosing between the mates fate gave me and the future my people desperately need. And I'm starting to fear I can't have both.

Good Storyline, but the Narration Nearly Ruined It

This was unfortunately my least favorite book in the series so far, although I do give the author credit for continuing to create interesting and unique storylines. I enjoyed the overall plot and wanted to see how the story played out, but I struggled to finish this one.

The biggest problem for me was the narration. The female narrator’s Scottish accents were extremely distracting, particularly when she voiced the male characters. The men sounded overly feminine and lost the strength and masculinity they had when voiced by the male narrator. The heavily accented dialogue also felt unnaturally slow at times, which made the book drag. By the end, the narration had become such a distraction that it took away from what was actually a good storyline. I honestly think the book would have worked much better if the male narrator had narrated the entire story.

I also had a difficult time with the female main character. She came across as far too young and immature, overly dramatic, insecure, and whiny. I kept waiting for her to develop more confidence and fortitude, but she remained frustrating for much of the book.

There was a good story underneath all of this, which is why I kept listening. Unfortunately, between an FMC I found difficult to like and narration that constantly pulled me out of the story, this installment just didn’t work for me.
