THE STORY

Horus has rebelled against the Emperor by purging his and his brother's Legions, but what was supposed to be a secret act of murder has been revealed. In the Emperor's name, Rogal Dorn and Malcador the Sigillite dispatch the largest force of legionaries and primarchs ever assembled to end Horus' rebellion before it can begin.

But the loyalists, on their way to enact vengeance, do not know the depth of the betrayal they face. They will not be the perpetrators of a massacre, but its victims. The last hope of returning to the Great Crusade and the unity of the Imperium will die in the dust of Isstvan V, and those who survive will live in a new age of darkness.

Unexpected surprise

Was not expecting to enjoy this add-on story to Isstavaan 5. It has good insight to the three loyal primarchs thoughts before the fight but the best I enjoyed was 1st Captain Pesh of the Alpha Legion. Really liked him.

Good Story

The book was very good and provides some insight into how the Legionaries and Solar Auxiliaries were impacted. There is some greater insight into the traitor primarchs that highlight how splintered they were even in the beginning. I didn’t want to finish the book due to sad inevitable end it would get too. Glad I did.

Added insight and detail

Author seems to play favorites of the legions, but adds to the story... it's like watching Rogue One. you already know what's coming but this highlights it all. World Eaters and Raven Guard lore great... everything else, meh. this is GWs effort to justify the Alpha Legion because they never bothered to. Plot ties into aspects that alter the original plot within Fulgrim book of HH. A good read to kill time or a long drive... I won't listen to it ever again though.

quality...

great voices kept transitions very easy to follow. only a couple hiccups when switching between the ships that I almost got lost. but that problem was minor in the book as a whole. very well written

Hail Hydra?

Worth a listen. Ingo Pech is my favorite Alpha legionnaire now. For the Emperor. Right?
