not for me, too many perspectives

I liked the premise, but not the execution. This novel jumped from perspective to perspective to perspective, mid-chapter. The least you can do when you have so many perspectives is to put them in separate chapters. To be fair, they made it clear when they switched, I just didn't like switching so often.

Spoiler alert: And towards the end of the book you learn that you're going to start having two protagonists, which means more freaking perspectives.

Best book I've read in years

Not entirely what I had hoped it would

I found this series through ChatGPT, looking for finance heavy series like CivCEO. This title csme rolling out of the suggestion as the best fit for me. Disregard Fantasy, Aquire Currency definitely sounded to me like the MC was going to be all about money making, investing, growing etc. I expected him to be literally waving away any part of the plot that had to do with the world just to make money. This is the case partially, however.

I feel more than half of the book is about plotlines by other characters that don't feel connected to the part about money making at all. Every chapter is divided up by several short subchapters from different pov's, and you are switching them very frequently. Sometimes a characters bit is only a few sentences long before switching to anotger character, or even the same character again. All in all I had hoped for more focus on actual finance, as the MC is (forced) to actually deal with the fantasy, rather than disregarding it. Really hoping the business empire part is more prominent in book 2.

Lastly, this is more of a personal issue. This is my first experience with the author, and I'm assuming he or she is a fellow Dutchman like myself. Most of the characters have very Dutch names, and pronounced by an English narrator. I really dislike Dutch fantasy or names in English, as I think our language is not suited for fantasy at all. It took me most of the book to figure out a character named Karel was actually Karel and not Carrell, for example. Really not digging this, but probably less of a problem if you're not Dutch or me.

All in all, hoping for actually more Disregarding Fantasy and more Aquiring of Currency. I will keep going with 2, but am not sure if I will go through with the series if there is any more of the same.

Not what I expected

My initial concern was that Nemorosus' story was going to be mostly focused on mercantilism which isn't one of my preferred genres; however, seeing that Daniel Wisniewski was the narrator and enjoyed his other performances, I decided to give this a try.

While there was a fair bit of mercantilism involved, that was more of a MacGuffin device than the primary emphasis of the story. No, the story really revolved around an industrialist MC upon death being Isekai'd from a modern urban world, presumably Earth, to another realm where magic existed. Further complicating matters, the MC's psyche overrode that of the psyche of a rather despicable princeling. Also, the economy was closer to a pre-industrial era where product development was slow and heavily depended on manual labor. The MC's industrial background knowledge immediately led him on a quest to modernize the economy by removing inefficiencies.

He was was also wrapped-up into political intrigue from within the kingdom as well as from another slaver kingdom.

In all, I enjoyed the novel and look forward to Book 2.
