As a Marine, Henry Morgan would have said it was more likely he’d die from enemy fire than from being struck by a flying lawnmower while at a baseball game.

But it was the lawnmower that ended up taking him out.

A century later, Henry wakes up as a reconstituted intelligence, and is promptly drafted to be the governing AI for America’s first military starship. After decades of model-trained AIs wreaking havoc across the globe, humanity is ready to try something a little more…human.

Henry is perfect. For one thing, as a reconstituted intelligence, he has no rights and can be forced to do the bidding of the powers that be. For another, he’s the only Heritage Mind™ with any military experience that survived the Great Power Surge of 2072.

So, Henry’s it.

Blastoff, good Henry! Our hopes and dreams go with you. Oh, and while you’re at it, could you take a look at the aliens setting up shop in our asteroid belt? They seem to be…multiplying.

Sgt Henry Morgan, was a Marine at a baseball game, suddenly killed by a flying lawnmower and waking up as a reconstituted mind aboard Earth’s starship, Interchange! And, Henry controls the ship, or more accurately, Henry IS the ship!! Thus begins our rollicking adventure among the stars, and the first installment of this great series, written by Scott Bartlett and performed by Mark Boyett. Enjoy…

Killed by a flying lawnmower!!!

This is one of my favorite writer narrator duos. The writing is entertaining but the depth of the plot and character development draws you in and will have you cheering on our not quite human, but really human hero. Had to pre-order the next even though I'm only half way through, but this book is really two in one. I'm losing sleep letting it all unfold.

Characters are so relatable, loving some and really disliking others!

Really like the character development and world building of the first book. We have some interesting characters some that are hopeful and bright. Some that are flawed that you do see redemption coming through for. The second book really did get into the space marine mode with battles and fighting, etc. All in all I Loved it.

Great story.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Very well written and it was exiting and fast paced.

One thing this author does really well, is get us to CARE about the main character. Some parts, where he was locked out entirely of the system were highly frustrating. I wondered why he didn’t devise a way to get around the governing AI during the first decade alone. I too loved to hate the captain. His inability to listen is something that actually happens more often than not in positions of control, especially when you have as green of technology and crew as he did. I found everything believable, and the narration completely on point!

Fantastic read!

These books are so awesome! I like your typical sci-fi tropes, but sometimes I really want to listen to something just a little bit different. Well, these books totally satisfy!

Not Your Typical Sci-Fi!

This is objectively a really good book. However, parts of it were incredibly hard to listen to. The bigotry shown by everyone that surrounds the main character is horrific. And it is written in such an engaging way that I had a visceral reaction to their hate. It was literally hard for me to listen to at parts. But once again I'm saying this is objectively a very good book. I just really want many of the people in this book to get a galaxy spanning karma bitchslap.

Narration, as expected, is top notch by Mark.

great but almost couldn't listen.

As stated in other reviews, the negativity against the main character is off the charts. It’s also completely unsupported by anything in the book. There’s actually more nuance to the bullying by side characters in an episode of Power Rangers. Also, all the characters are dumb, really dumb. One person who supported the main character feels hurt about a decision that is meaningless and is against the main character for the rest of the book. I can see a really good story in there somewhere, but it’s ruined by a crew of people with poor frontal lobe control. The narration is actually very good and I wish he had better stuff to work with.
