Starship No Longer Lost

Terrific, well thought out story, characters, and events. Research must have been extensive. Word craft is superb. Great choice for narrator-I was able to differentiate the “speakers” before they were verbally identified

pleasantly surprised

I definitely enjoyed the story. At times there certainly could have been more tension. It's a very clean story line with almost ZERO naughty words if that is an issue for someone.

An easy way to pass the time when driving.

I enjoyed the series wish the ending had been a little bit more but overall And enjoyable read.

good story but you could tell the author was paid by the word. much better story if condensed by one book in volume.

Dragged on too long, yet ended too soon.

I really enjoyed the story and the world, but the characters and their relationships were more unbelievable than any of the sci-fi technology.

The various relationships, whether they be romantic or familial, felt forced, at best. I never got the impression that these characters even knew each other, let alone were in love, or even hated each other, when that was called for.

It also didn't help that the narrator decided to give everyone on the main ship different accents, even though they were all born there, and were raised communally. There's only 250 people, jammed close together on a single starship. By contrast, the enemy city supposedly has a million people living there, and they all have the exact same accent as each other. Maybe it was supposed to be a commentary on the differences in freedom between the two societies, but it just felt unnatural to me.

No one reacts realistically to their circumstances. There are places where I laughed out loud at the ridiculous ways people were convinced, or not, to lay down their arms. The arguments between supposed allies were equally nonsensical.

But. the world, and the plot kept me interested, even though all of the space battles went almost exactly the same, every time.

If you've been through every Space Opera/Military Sci-fi title on Audible, and you still want more, this series might just work for you. At least it was one price for the entire thing.

***One other minor annoyance was that there were "Previously On..." chapters at the beginning of the last few books that were the last chapter from the previous book. I just listened to that. Why was this kept in the omnibus edition? Runtime padding?

I wish we got more information, if not closure from the other Malibor worlds. Sure, we got some from the two that they visited, but not the one where the Malibor were hiring mercenaries. They were supposed to be these ruthless warriors, but the only two times they are encountered, they are the first ones killed in the engagement. (and they have the same accents as the Malibor from every other planet.)

It was never explained why the Borwin on Septimus had 2 girls for every boy born. Was it some side effect of living off the land? Were the elders in the mountain trying not to breed too many soldiers? Was it the Malibor? Heck, was it the aliens?

Finally, I wanted more information about the aliens that the Malibor got the artificial gravity and energy shield technology from. They mentioned which planet they were found on, but there was zero follow up. Was it the ruins of an ancient civilization, or an active outpost? This author seems pretty prolific, so maybe there will be a sequel series.
