Publisher's summary

Avalon Spy Academy rules: spy on the fey, resist falling for your mentor, and try not to die in the process.

I spent five years saving up for a European vacation. But instead of drinking champagne on the beach, I get swept into a war of espionage between the humans and the fey.

It turns out, I have a magic power needed to fight an evil fey king. I'm quickly whisked off to an elite spy academy in a hidden realm. There, in the ancient and gothic halls of Avalon Tower, snobbery and brutal competitions are among the oldest traditions.

As if I didn't have enough trouble, my new mentor is Raphael Launcelot, a maddeningly sexy demi-fey who already ruined my life once. I can't fall for him again. Romance is forbidden here; a distracted spy is a dead spy. So I need to push his dangerous allure out of my mind as we travel into the Fey realm. If we get captured, we’ll die horrific deaths–and humanity won’t stand a chance.

If you liked Frost and City of Thorns, you will love Avalon Tower.

So good!

King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table + fae = This epic read! Once you start this, you won't be able to stop! I had to know what happened next. It was like I was a spy from Avalon Tower right along with Nia. And that ending 🤯 I knew there was going to be something like that, but I didn't see that twist coming! Cannot wait for the next book!

It got better

Perhaps it was the narrator that held me back from being immersed in this story. Her inflections were distracting; at times, British accent done with the FMC's dialog. The voices of other characters were done better than the FMC.
Story wise, it took a few chapters before I was pulled in, and even then, I wasn't salivating for the next scene/chapter. Some of the early chapters I thought were unrealistic. Sparring on the first day of training? Then she's berated by Vivianne for it? It just didn't make sense to me.
The further I progressed, the story became more interesting and the end had me gaping. Though until that moment, it was kind of predictable with flashes of surprise.
All in all, the story was decent and I loved the world C.N. built, but I'm not chomping at the bit for the next book. This is a decent palate cleanser as of rn. We'll see if I'm needing another when book 2 comes out.

Loved it!

The narration was excellent! Fantastic story of fae and magic set in Camelot. Nia thought she was human but finds out she is demi fey when she performs rare magic. She joins a spy school to protect the humans from all out fey war. Super fun twist of the knights of the round table.

Good story, iffy on the romance

I love the basis of the book. The Fae have taken control of part of France. Modern tech no longer works. A woman on holiday turns out to be a potentially valuable weapon against the Fae.
The story is well done. There’s a constant flow of plot. The romance though….it would have worked better if they hadn’t tried to write the romance scenes. The scenes feel like the author was uncomfortable or very new at writing them.
I’m definitely in for the rest of the series

Wow!!!

From beginning to end, it was nonstop action! I was literally on the edge of my seat and biting my fingernails at one point. I loved Mia! She's one of those mothering souls, a person who cares for everyone around her without every worrying about herself. It's an admirable trait, but exhausting and not rewarding. She discovers so much about herself and her character development is beautiful! She becomes fierce! And then there's Raphael! Holy hotness!! He's got that alphahole energy and he can totally back it up. Their story is such a delicious slow burn. They fight their chemistry and attraction and you can't help but want them to give in! This story was just so good and I totally got sucked in! There's a huge twist that I never saw coming and now I can't wait for the next book!

Nia & Raphael all the way..

I have to say that the narrator did a good job with the characters although it took me a while to get accustomed to her voice. The story however, pulled me in from the very beginning. I really don't want to give anything away, but this forbidden love romance story left me excited to read the next book especially with the major cliffhanger in the ending with Nia. When it comes to Nia and Raphael, I just can't seem to get enough of them. There are moments when he comes off as a jerk but when you are given the reasons behind his actions, you love him even more. However, this story is about so much more than them and it's one full of characters you will hate to love and love to hate. There's mystery, suspense, action, adventure, grief, magic, steamy scenes, friends, enemies, betrayal, jealousy and so much more. Nia comes face to face with someone thought gone and he reveals a major secret, Raphael is gone, and the battle has just begun. I can't wait to know what happens next.
