Publisher's summary
Nick Hayes retreats to the forest to escape his demons, but he soon discovers a bigger monster is waiting for him in the woods.
Nick takes a summer job in a National Park after a terrible breakup. However, before he can put the pieces of his life back together with help from a new friend, he uncovers a dark secret. Someone or something is hunting campers in the park. No one is safe. Not adults. Not children. Or even the smallest forest dweller. Given his troubled past, Nick would rather die than let another innocent soul go missing.
Can Nick stop the monster before it kills again, or will he become its next victim?

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

He’s always been there, the old gentleman in the funeral suit, hanging around the big oak tree. Even before the cemetery was dug, the natives knew about him. He was just as much a part of the landscape as the rocks or the river. If you ever needed anything, especially if it was a matter of life and death, you could find him and make a trade. I couldn't stop! (binged quickly)
this was such a fun book to listen to!
I could not stop listening, and kept finding excuses to go on walks or continuing my walk! (because I like to listen to audiobooks when I walk)
finally it got too cold so I had to simply come inside, sit down and spend the next 75 minutes. glued to my ear buds until I finished this book.
although I just finished it a few minutes ago, I sincerely want to relisten again. there are so many awesome details that I will now. I think be able to pick up even more since I know the whole story!

True be Told...I don't read books like I should. I do however like a good Audio Book.
I was told about the first book, but I REFUSED to fall asleep a million times reading it. I saw on Tik Tok that said the Audible version dropped. I was all in!!
The book was only 5(ish) hours so it was a quick road trip or half week commute listen...I knocked it out Sunday afternoon while still squeezing in a couple St Patty's Day Beers in between chapters. I was also inspired in the listen to have a whiskey the "right" way!!! Needless to say I was not cool enough yet. Great Section of the book!!!
The characters were relatable and described good enough for at least the first book. I will not give away where the book went and is going but I can say I'm going to now buy book two because it is not available on audible. I might secretly plan a road trip and have my girlfriend read it to me while I'm driving. Please no one tell her.
The critical thinking and "natural born athlete" minded main character gave me some internal chuckles at myself since I can TOTALLY relate!
