A laugh-out-loud, slice-of-life martial-arts fantasy about . . . farming????
Jin Rou wanted to be a cultivator. A man powerful enough to defy the heavens. A master of martial arts. A lord of spiritual power. Unfortunately for him, he died, and now I’m stuck in his body.
And you know what? Things ain’t actually all that bad.
I mean, last year was pretty hectic. I died, got reborn, ran away from my sect and ultimate power, started a farm, made some friends, awakened all my animals into Spirit Beasts so now they’re running around talking and getting into life-and-death battles with super-powered bandits . . .
Oh! And I got married. Pretty neat, huh?
Well, this year, after the Spring Planting season, I’m really gonna relax and put down roots. It’s the slow life for me. Sure, the talking animals and cultivators coming to live with me are a bit weird, but this year everything is gonna be basically normal.
There definitely won’t be any Heavenly Tribulations, ancient formations, or cultivator issues to deal with . . .

I will try to make sure that this is "spoiler free".
I'm not the biggest Slice of Life fan. But occasionally there comes along one that truly stand out. This is one of those. It is a great continuation from the 1st book. The character development is priority #1 here. Which I really love getting to know the characters with so much depth. It breathes life into them; as if you've known them for years. Immersion achieved. The world is becoming more developed at a steady pace. With multiple characters going on personal journeys. Each journey introducing new (interesting) characters. So many minor characters to keep up with. Which just makes the world even bigger. With more possibilities for future story arcs to proceed. There is so much foundational work laid within this book to allow this series to continue to grow. So much potential and hope for the future books. Too much to just end it with another short 3rd book ending the series. This story (at this point) is deserving of a lot more than 3 and done.
The growth of Bi De, Wa Shi, and Tigu is an extremely enjoyable ride. I was not expecting the "growth" achieved by Wa Shi and Tigu. Those were really nice touches. With the biggest change being Tigu. The maturity she experiences almost makes her a new/separate character. All of the spirit beasts are developing more. Chun Ke, Pi Pa, and Ri Zu are all filling out into their characters much more than what was achieved in the 1st book. With a nice twist to the development of the ox and... plow. Those were a nice change from the established pattern.
The Narrator does an excellent job once again. I have no problem with knowing the characters. Who they are, and how they feel.
The only thing I didn't like (besides it being way to short, and ending all of the sudden) was how there were times where it seemed (to me) to just jump sporadically to a separate part of the story without any warning. It thew me off. Taking me a minute to catch up to who and what was happening. I will admit that could be in part to me allowing myself to get distracted enough not realize the change in story had occurred. Other than that... it's a solid story. Very much worth adding to my library. Definitely a series that can be enjoyed multiple times.
A wonderful Slice of Life / Isekai story
