Publisher's summary

The stories in the Porthkennack universe can be enjoyed in any order—jump in wherever you'd like!

When grief-stricken scientist Sir Edward Fitzwilliam provokes public scorn by defending a sham spiritualist, he’s forced to retreat to Porthkennack to lick his wounds. Ward’s reputation is in tatters, but he’s determined to continue the work he began after the death of his beloved brother. In Porthkennack, Ward meets Nicholas Hearn, land steward to the Roscarrock family. Ward becomes convinced that Nick, whose Romany mother was reportedly clairvoyant, is the perfect man to assist with his work. But Nick—who has reason to distrust the whims of wealthy men—is loath to agree.

Until Fate steps in to lend a hand. Despite Nick’s misgivings, he discovers that Ward is not the high-handed aristocrat he first thought. And when passion ignites between them, Nick learns there’s much more to love than the rushed, clandestine encounters he’s used to. Nevertheless, Nick’s sure that wealthy, educated Ward will never see him as an equal. A storm is gathering, but with Nick’s self-doubts and Ward’s growing obsession, the fragile bond between the two men may not be strong enough to withstand it.

A very predictable tale

Not bad at all but a little predictable at every turn. Still, a bit of fun!

A Good Historical Romance

You can read Joanna Chambers A Gathering Storm as a standalone, all the Porthkennack books stand alone.

I enjoyed this one. All the stuff Chambers does well is here: interesting historical tidbits, damaged MCs, and super hot physical romance.

I did the audio which is performed by Simon Goldhill.

Powerful audio performance

This is an outstanding audio performance, I especially loved Simon Goldhill’s raspy interpretation of Sir Edward Fitzwilliam’s voice. It’s so jarring that very often it took me a while to adjust whenever Sir Edward spoke.

This book is set in Cornwall and tells the tale of one of the Roscarrock family.
It focuses on class and privilege, and what it feels like to not really belong and how grief leaves us hollow.

I read anything Joanna Chambers writes. She is highly talented and understands the need for community and a safe place to belong.

Highly recommend this book.

Awesome

I have to tell you how much I loved this book. At first I wondered where it was going but it took off into an awesome story. I’m sad this historical m/m romance has so little books that are quality. Johanna chambers is THE BEST AUTHOR in this category. She picks quality narrators as well. Thats why her books are auto purchases for me. Thank you Joanna and I loved the narrator she chose. So worth the time and money.
