Sky King Ranch, Book 1

By: Susan May Warren

Narrated by: Cynthia Farrell

Coming home was never the plan

After a terrible family fight, pilot Dodge Kingston left home to join the Air Force. A decade later, he’s headed back to the destiny that awaits him as heir to Sky King Ranch. But that’s not all that’s waiting for him at home.

Echo Yazzie is a true Alaskan woman—a homesteader, dogsledder, and research guide for the DNR. After her childhood best friend and former flame, Dodge, fled Denali, she settled into life on the Alaskan range. She’s made her peace with being left behind—by her mother and by Dodge. And she’s strong enough to live without them.

When one of Echo’s fellow researchers goes missing, Echo sets out to find her, despite a blizzard, a rogue grizzly haunting the woods, and the biting cold. What she doesn’t know is that there are more than just the regular dangers of the Alaskan forests stalking her …

As Dodge sets out to find Echo, he can’t ignore the feelings he still has for her. But will he be able to find her in time? And if he does, is there still room for him in her heart?

Action, Suspense and Forgiveness

Filled with action and suspense. Trying to leave the past behind in a tangle circle.of mistrust. Finding faith is the only way back to a promised future.

The description of Alaska

I don’t normally give a review unless I feel there are things lacking.
The narration was difficult to follow and understand at times. The voices were confusing when there were characters interacting with each other.
The storyline was interesting but the last few minutes of the book was left with no explanation of what happened. If it was in reference to the earlier episodes of the Jane doe being found there could have been a little more relatable content to help the reader comprehend the plot.
Full disclosure, I haven’t read/listened to the other books in this series and after this one I’m not sure if I’ll use credits to get them. The unanswered questions may be revealed in one of them.

Worth the credit

She never disappoints! Wonderful story and narration. Suspense throughout. Can’t wait for the next one.

Loved

Another great book by Susan May Warren. I love these characters in this book and series. I can’t wait for the next book in this series. I would recommend this book and all of Susan’s books. I listened to this book on audiobook.

Mixed Feelings

I think it’s a great storyline (as are most all of her books) but the performance was very disappointing. Several mispronunciations of key words. The male voices sounded the same, so it was a bit difficult to follow and I had to rewind several times to make sure I was following along correctly. Voice emphasis and fluctuations were very poor and made it hard to listen to (because it was apparent that the statement(s) were not written or intended in the manner that they were being said.
I’d like to finish the series, but am wary of the voice.
