Publisher's summary

Some soldiers are the shields of innocent souls, others are the fanatics of their cause. For them...no war is ever truly over.

Mage-Commander Roslyn Chambers has risen through the ranks of the Royal Martian Navy. Tempered on the anvil of the war against the secessionist UnArcana World and tested against the evil of Project Orpheus, she now serves as second-in-command of one of their most prestigious battlecruisers, Duke of Magnificence.

A desperate call for help sends Roslyn and her new ship deep into the frontiers of Protectorate space, where they discover that hold-outs of the UnArcana Worlds’ fleets have returned to plunder innocent ships across the Fringe. To protect the innocent and serve her queen, Roslyn must rise to the task before her. She must learn to command - both herself and a warship of the Mage-Queen of Mars.

first time fan

I haven't read anything by Glynn Stewart before, but I am a fan now. This is an intriguing story with enough background on the characters I don't feel I missed anything starting with the 2nd book in the series. looking forward to reading more.

Thank you Jeffrey Kafer for narrating this story.

Thank you Glynn Stewart for writing this book and outstanding story. The joke about the nice locations not nice bad guys was good.

Forced Drama and action by writing things stupidly

I got to the second battle and had to quit listening for awhile because RMN rules of engagement outside of wartime need a complete recon or review board because they are based on an ideal not reality. It happened again near the end there is a example of a pointless and artificial heroism, just draw your pistol and shoot for the head.

Another Great book

Really good book that continues the starship mage world. Glynn Stewart continues to build great characters and includes the right mix of action and drama to always make you want more. can not not wait for the book now!

Another excellent book

Another great Mars book. my only disappointment is that it ended. I can't wait for book three of Rosalind's adventures. It was nice to see old friends reappear. There are major developments at the end. many more books to come it appears. Can't wait.

Consistently Good Mostly

Why are we changing how words are said 10 books in? I could deal with the Romonov change from pronouncing it Dennis to Denees but 10 books in a word that has been used since book 1 shouldn't be changed like simulacrum. Other than that admittedly small annoyance I was satisfied with another Starship's Mage book. Thought I wouldn't like the change of who the books follow but surprisingly I didn't mind it.

BUG: I only wanted to input the star ratings

I have to type at least fifteen words of information to simply input the star ratings for Overall/Performance/Story, I hope this issue is resolved soon as this review is a waste of space and effort.

another good installment

nice to see that Glynn Stewart has been able to shift the main character focus to an earlier character as Damian has become to senior to be in the field.

Good - not great

I have read/listened to ALL books in the Starship Mage series/universe. I understand the griping from some reviewers about the lack of what was always the MC (Damien Montgomery); however, as was stated in last 2 books - his current (and ongoing) status would most likely preclude him from ever leaving Mars again. So, the author could have ended the series or do an “offshoot”, which he’s done before with the “Red Falcon”/“Agent Provocateur” - all featuring Rosalind Chamber. Don’t know why people are surprised… My only problem with the Rosalind character is the constant “age” woes. How many times in a single book (and EVERY book) must this be referenced to?! It’s repetitive, annoying, and frankly barely applicable at this point. But then, this author does exactly the same thing with regards to D. Montgomery’s height (in EVERY SINGLE INSTANCE THE CHARACTER APPEARS, numerous times within each book - we get; he is short, VERY short). I’m glad that the author has cut down on romantic entanglements- they always seem forced. The author also apparently is a firm believer that in the future all relationships and marriages will be polyamorous/polyfidelitous in nature. That may very well be true - but an odd subject to push and insert into ALL narrative. Anyway, this particular entry is ok, but meandering and repetitive - frankly this series is taking on a “soap opera” aspect instead of “space opera” as was the original intent.

More wanted!

I always enjoy anything in this series. The next book can't come fast enough! I say that with all due respect to the author and their craft. I will impatiently wait until it is the correct version to publish and get on audio. Go Team Mars!
