Gone to Texas - A Josey Wales Western

By: Forrest Carter

Narrated by: Chet Williamson

Josey Wales was the most wanted man in Texas. His wife and child had been lost to pre-civil War destruction and, like Jesse James and other young farmers, he joined the guerrilla soldiers of Missouri-men with no cause but survival and no purpose but revenge.

One of my favorites...

A solid and enjoyable old western novel with historical roots in the Missouri/Kansas border conflict of the American Civil War. A particularly ugly region of what was already a bloody and vile struggle.

The story was brought to life by Clint Eastwood in the movie "The Outlaw Josey Wales."

Well worth the read.

good read

If you're looking for historically correct story that is just plain a great read this is it.

Excellent Narration

The narrator reads at a pace and tone that is suitable for the story and he does very good voices for the different characters. A very entertaining listen that I'll definitely return to.

Loved It

If you have seen the movie, the movie followed along pretty closely. The authors use of creative language was great.

Thoroughly enjoyable

I’ve loved the movie since I was a kid . As an adult I noticed the “going to Texas” note in the opening titles of the film, but until this year I could not find the book. They always say the book is better and yes in this case it is.
