Book 8 in the New Species series.

Dr. Allison Baker is obsessed with saving the comatose New Species male. She has tried everything and there’s only one option left. Alli will break every rule and put her life in danger by tempting 880 to wake, using only her feminine scent and touch. She just has to kidnap him and crawl into bed with him to make it work.

880 wakes in a different world with a small female who’s been sleeping beside him, caressing him, and wrapping her sweet body around his, teasing his senses. He lies silent and still, listening and evaluating each arousing touch, fighting his body’s reaction. Hatred flares when he discovers she’s human, but Mercile stole everything from him so he decides it’s fair to take her in return.

But things quickly change and he wants her at his side and in his bed. 880 has chosen a new name – Obsidian - the personification of dark and dangerous. He’ll fight them all to keep Alli. No one will stand in his way.

Editorial reviews

In Book 8 of Laurann Dohner's steamy, popular New Species series, Dr. Allison Baker passionately tends to 880, a wounded New Species: part animal, part man, and in a coma. Knowing that her tempting female scent will lure him into consciousness, she begins sleeping beside him - and after 880 wakes, choosing the powerful and dark name Obsidian, he decides to claim Alli as his. A sensual, versatile performance from Vanessa Chambers helps bring Dohner's characters to life in this sexy example of erotic sci-fi.

This is a most exciting, sexy listen!

What does Vanessa Chambers bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Vanessa's ability to portray the voices so realistically made this listen come fully to life. I could 'see and feel' everything she described.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I absolutely wanted to listen all in one sitting and I did just that.

Finally, a book that was totally original, which is saying something since it is book 8 in a series.

Dr. Ally loves New Species and would do anything to protect them, but when one of her patients isn't recovering she takes matter into her own hands to heal him.

I was a bit bummed about the separation, but overall I think it was handled well and the characters got me emotionally invested in this world yet again!

Okay that was pretty good!

Parting is such sweet sorrow, will you take that risk and see me tomorrow? This book kept me on edge and guessing for the next move, the danger, the love that you hoped would last and the understanding and happiness when one finds where they belong.

Narrator does all the audiobooks in this series. Very talented and she does so many different voices. Love her. Obsidian is my least favorite of the entire New Species series. I found it a little silly and corny. Not as interesting and none of the expected funny jokes and lighter moods. It is hard to get through BUT still a great book. The other books in this series are fantastic!

My least favorite of them all but still good.
