Dark fantasy goes hardboiled in Book II of the hard-hitting Grimnoir Chronicles by the New York Times best-selling creator of Monster Hunter International. The Grimnoir Society’s mission is to protect people with magic, and they’ve done so - successfully and in secret - since the mysterious arrival of the Power in the 1850s, but when a magical assassin makes an attempt on the life of President Franklin Roosevelt, the crime is pinned on the Grimnoir. The knights must become fugitives while they attempt to discover who framed them.Thing go from bad to worse when Jake Sullivan, former P.I. and knight of the Grimnoir, receives a telephone call from a dead man - a man he helped kill. Turns out the Power jumped universes because it was fleeing from a predator that eats magic and leaves destroyed worlds in its wake. That predator has just landed on Earth.

This is the second book and the series and it deepens the readers understanding of the world as well as exploring all of the characters in it. The narrator keeps up his attempt to provide a unique voice for each character and does well overall, though some of the accents are more noticeable than others. Overall a great new addition to the series.

A great new book in the series

I dove right into this one as soon as I finished Hard Magic and I wasn't disappointed. If you like the first then you'll like this one too. There are great writing with interesting characters. The second book has basically become the X-men with magic instead of mutants, in 1930's but it's done extremely well. And who knew Bronson Pinchot was a narrating genius. I'll be going back to listen to anything he's done.

A great follow up to Hard Magic

The only disappointment is waiting for the third book. An outstanding story, well narrated. The characters are rich and well developed. I enjoyed this series much more than the Monster International series, which was a good story in itself.

Outstanding sequel

Lots to like about this continuation of a solid series. Guns. Fights. Fun narration by Bronson Pinchot. In short, it's a solid testosterone-pumping novel with lots to like.

A very fast paced story about the ultimate struggle between good and evil with wonderful, exciting magic that keeps you wanting for more.  In this series it is probably a good idea to read the books in order because this book picks right up at the end of the first and it will keep you on a wild ride right to the end.

Great magical characters that are so unique, Larry Correia is so amazingly inventive to come up with so many different types of magic.  His main characters powers keep expanding and personal information about each of them is revealed throughout that makes them even more likable.  New and old villains that you love to hate and nonstop action, help to make this a fun, exciting journey through the mysteries of wizardry.

Bronson Pinchot carries an excellent pace and does a great job with so many dialects and accents, he adds depth and personality to the characters. Can't wait for the next book.
