Publisher's summary

Who in the world is Charlie, and why would I want to read a letter to him? Well, I don't know Charlie that well, and why would I be writing a letter to him in the first place if I don't know him that well? Some good questions, so let me give you the run down. My wife and I live in a small town in the Southeast corner of Minnesota so once a week we drive 35 miles down the road to the next town that has a Walmart. We pick up our vittles for the week. You know, groceries. Well, when my wife is doing her shopping, I take my tablet with all my books on it and park my behind on a bench in the front of the store and read. I read until someone comes along and sits down by me. When that happens, I quit reading and make some small talk. I am not sure how long ago it was that I met Charlie, but I believe it's been over a year ago. As I remember that day, my wife and I walked into the store, and as she went to do her shopping, I went to my usual spot to read. As I was walking over to sit down, I saw a fellow sitting on the bench. I found out that this was Charlie. Charlie was a quiet, soft spoken, old gentleman in his eighties. After talking to him, I found out that he lived about the same distance as we did but in a different direction. So we live about 70 miles from one another so that I wouldn't say, neighbors. Sitting down next to him, I started some small talk. After we had gone our separate ways, I thought we would probably never cross paths again, but I was wrong. Now I am not saying that I see him every week, but maybe twice a month I run into him. What inspired me to write this book was what Charlie told me yesterday. Yes, I ran into him yesterday, and he said that he had aggressive cancer and I might not see him anymore. He said he was dying. When I saw him yesterday, I only had a few minutes to talk to him and had so much to say to him and not enough time. So as I was thinking of writing him a letter the thought came to me that we are all in Charlie's shoes. We are all dying so if I write him a letter it is something we all need to read. So if you want to read what I have to say, just read on.
