GRANDMA WAS JIGGING

Publisher's summary
Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert of Green Gables had no intention of adopting the talkative, mischievous, red-headed girl the orphanage in Nova Scotia sent by mistake. Jenny is the story of Jenny Winge, a talented Norwegian painter who lives a free and independent life in Rome. Betraying her own ideals, she has an affair, resulting in a child out of wedlock, and decides to raise the child on her own. Undset gives a gripping portrayal of a woman struggling towards fulfillment and independence, who at the same time wrestles with mental problems. It is written with unflinching honesty, which makes her story as compelling today as it was nearly a century ago.

Story
Raised in post-Revolution Granville, Massachusetts, James Gould could only imagine the beauty and warmth of the lands to the south. It was there that he longed to build bridges and lighthouses from his very own designs and plans. His gripping story unfolds as Gould follows his dream to the raw settlement of Bangor on the Penobscot River, St. Simons Island off the coast of Georgia, lawless Spanish East Florida, and back - at last and finally - to St. Simons.

Wonderfully narrated and vividly imaginable!
The narrator fully submerged the listener into the story- as a wallflower of sorts. Such a classic story with incredible detail. It provokes a longing for a place one has never been before, yet somehow misses.

Great Book - not so great reading.
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Yes - it is one of the best youth books in the world.
What didn’t you like about Laurie Klein’s performance?
I thought she started out well but after a few chapters she seemed over-exaggerated and not true to character. Her voice was a little grating and the acting was bad.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Yes.

Classic story narrated PERFECTLY!
Of course Anne of Green Gables is a magnificent story made better by Laurie Klein’s narration. Her “Anne” is perfect, bright and open, exactly like what she should sound like. Marilla and Matthew are so well performed that I feel I could visualize exactly how they look. If you’re trying to decide which version of this book to choose, choose this one!
