First published in 1975, Animal Liberation created a sensation upon its release, shaking the world's philosophical and animal-protection circles to their cores. Now, 40 years later, Peter Singer's landmark work still looms large as a foundational and canonical text of animal advocacy. Arguing that all beings capable of suffering deserve equal consideration, Singer contends that the only justifiable treatment of animals is that which maximizes good and minimizes suffering.

Every time we eat, we have the power to radically transform the world we live in. Our choices can help alleviate the most pressing issues we face today: the climate crisis, infectious and chronic diseases, human exploitation and, of course, non-human exploitation. Undeniably, these issues can be uncomfortable to learn about but the benefits of doing so cannot be overstated. It is quite literally a matter of life and death.

Story
In a crucial passage from the Old Testament, God grants mankind power over animals. But with this privilege comes the grave responsibility to respect life, to treat animals with simple dignity and compassion. Somewhere along the way, something has gone wrong. In Dominion, we witness the annual convention of Safari Club International, an organization whose wealthier members will pay up to $20,000 to hunt an elephant, a lion, or another animal, either abroad or in American "safari ranches", where the animals are fenced in pens.

The benefits of restrictive diets like paleo and keto have been touted for more than a decade, but as renowned gastroenterologist Dr. Will Bulsiewicz, or "Dr. B", illuminates in this groundbreaking audiobook, the explosion of studies on the microbiome makes it abundantly clear that elimination diets are in fact hazardous to our health. What studies clearly now show - and what Dr. B preaches with his patients - is that gut health is the key to boosting our metabolism, balancing our hormones, and taming the inflammation that causes a host of diseases.

Publisher's Summary
The founder and president of PETA, Ingrid Newkirk, and best-selling author Gene Stone explore the wonders of animal life with “admiration and empathy” (The New York Times Book Review) and offer tools for living more kindly toward them.
In the last few decades, a wealth of new information has emerged about who animals are: astounding beings with intelligence, emotions, intricate communications networks, and myriad abilities. In Animalkind, Ingrid Newkirk and Gene Stone present these findings in a concise and awe-inspiring way, detailing a range of surprising discoveries, like that geese fall in love and stay with a partner for life, that fish “sing” underwater, and that elephants use their trunks to send subsonic signals, alerting other herds to danger miles away.
Newkirk and Stone pair their tour through the astounding lives of animals with a guide to the exciting new tools that allow humans to avoid using or abusing animals as we once did. Whether it’s medicine, product testing, entertainment, clothing, or food, there are now better options to all the uses animals once served in human life. We can substitute warmer, lighter faux fleece for wool, choose vegan versions of everything from shrimp to marshmallows, reap the benefits of animal-free medical research, and scrap captive orca exhibits and elephant rides for virtual reality and animatronics.
Animalkind provides a fascinating look at why our fellow living beings deserve our respect, and lays out the steps everyone can take to put this new understanding into action.

Move aside National Geographic and Discover!
This book is jam-packed with interesting facts and stories about animals and their uniqueness. I have a new sense of who animals are and why we should learn to live alongside them without harming them. I have always been fascinated by animals’ abilities and have read a lot about them but this book takes things to a whole new level. I also feel compelled to do more to help animals and I love that the book gives concrete things I can do, some that are really simple and some that will be more challenging. I highly recommend this for anyone who is interested in learning more about animals and how to help them.

Exceptional and important book
Simply put, we humans are not better than animals... we are just different. There is no justification for exploiting, abusing, killing or consuming animals. It needs to end. This book is crammed full of details of how sentient, intelligent and remarkable the beings we share our planet with truly are. It then tells just some of the horrific ways in which humans abuse animals, from testing, to entertainment, to farming.

Kindness to all animals
Animalkind by Ingrid Newkirk is an informative book on how animals are part of our world. The book tells of the remarkable way animals survive and what they do and how they contribute to the eco system. The book also covers some of the ways that humans exploits and abuse the rights of animals. A must read for a better understanding into the life of Animals and the respect they deserve.
