Publisher's summary

Isabella was a normal girl until a mysterious stranger turned her world upside down. Now she has been plunged into a world that she never knew existed with expectations on her shoulders far heavier than any before. She thought she was human, but now she's beginning to wonder what exactly she is? Zach tells her she is only half a person. How can that be? Will she fight to save the world or will she falter under the weight of a world of magic?

An Adventurous Journey

I enjoyed this novel immensely, the narrator does an excellent job of bringing the characters to life. The story itself is like a breath of fresh air, as it takes old myths and legends blending them seamlessly. The world is very exciting, split by season, each one having its own special traits. The Characters themselves held a spice I have not heard in sometime and it made it a pleasure to listen to.

Fresh and interesting

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the mix of different worlds: humans, angels, demons, fairies...this book combined them all in the perfect way. I loved the concept of 1 soul being split in 2 and the work required to make it possible to be brought together as 1 again. I know this author has more books and I am looking forward to them making their way to audible!

Complicated immersive world of Faerie; violent!

"Angel's Child, Devil's Curse" caught my attention, and I liked the narrator's voice on the sample. The book is not lesfic, which is generally my preferred genre, but as many goodreads friends have noticed, I’'e been listening to more and more paranormal, science fiction and superhero books...as plentiful as lesfic books are lately, some of the tropes are definitely being overdone, and I'm enjoying more variety.

If you liked Game of Thrones (GOT), I think you'll really like "Angel's Child, Devil's Curse". I actually only watched the first episode of GOT. The hyper violence, the incest and the attempted murder of a child just didn’t work for me. So...I was a bit surprised at the opening of "Angel's Child, Devil's Curse"'''which was definitely appropriate for GOT, but not to my taste.

"A group of centaurs had found a human female and were using her relentlessly one after the other. She was forced to endure their pleasure in every hole. Her mouth forced wide and her vagina split open."

“Her legs quivering as she stood only to lean over and vomit the cum, she had been forced to swallow.”

A few chapters later, we get:

"The girl's eye filled with more tears and Isabella let her see that there was no mercy in her veins as [he] forced her thumbs into the girl's eye sockets. The girl's blood curdling screams could be heard all the way to the palace. The screams ended quickly as Isabella slit her throat and collected her head for the bag of horrors she now carried.”

So yeah...not my normal book choice. Trust me, the sample on Audible was much cuter. Of course, a hawk pulling the guts out of a chipmunk would also be cuter, but the sample really was cuter, and gave no hints to the descriptive gore.

I applaud the author for creating a very immersive world, blending past and current times, and tying many of the characters together through lineage, marriage and/or lust. Personally, I found the story confusing and had to download the Kindle version to accompany the audiobook so I could make notes and search for things that confused me. Every character is referred to by name, and also by one of the four Fae courts. And also by their mate or intended mate. And also by their father, and/or their mother...who each also have multiple names.

There are so many characters, it's hard to say who is the MC. Isabella (from earth) is, of sorts. She is often used to allow us to view and learn of the world of Fae through her eyes. Unfortunately, she's also frequently dim and obstinate.

In addition to the human world, and the world of Fae, we also have angels, dragons, a devil, the Christian god, greek gods and mechanical robots...yes...it's complex.

The narrator generally did as good of a job as I'd anticipated and hoped, but there were some oddities. She pronounces the word dragon as dray-kin, for example.

The Kindle version has lots and lots of grammatical errors, such as substituting "he" for "she" as noted above.

Overall, I must admit to being disappointed with "Angel's Child, Devil's Curse", but if you go into it having enjoyed GOT, you’ll likely enjoy it more. I just didn’t expect the intense level of violence and cruelty based on the audible sample. 2.5* for the book, and 4* for the narration. 3.25* overall, rounded to 3*.

Good story

I got this story via audiobook boom and this is my voluntary review. I found this story to be interesting. I loved that in spite of all of the wars and fighting that in the ned the kingdom was brought back together. The split was triggered by anger and greed and was completed by love, thoughtfulness, and a desire to see wars ended. The narrator was good. I found that sometimes the story would switch tense suddenly but overall it was a good story.
