Lark is but the keeper of his bees and the woman he is hoping will provide a tincture that might help his ailing wife conceive and bear him an heir. Story
Selah Hopewell seems to be the only woman in the Virginia colony who has no wish to wed. True, there are too many men and far too few women in James Towne. But Selah already has her hands full assisting her father in the family's shop. And now she is in charge of an incoming ship of tobacco brides who must be looked after as they sort through their many suitors.
By: Laura Frantz
Publisher's Summary
Unflinching and plainspoken, Tessa Swan is not your typical 18th-century woman. Born and bred on the Western Virginia frontier along with her five brothers, she is a force to be reckoned with.
Quiet and courageous, Clay Tygart is not your typical 18th-century man. Raised by Lenape Indians, he returns a hero from the French and Indian War to the fort that bears his name, bringing with him Tessa's long-lost friend, Keturah, a redeemed Indian captive like himself.
Determined to avoid any romantic entanglements as fort commander, Clay remains aloof whenever he encounters the lovely Tessa. But when she is taken captive by the tribe Clay left, his hand - and heart - are forced, leading to one very private and one very public reckoning.
Intense, evocative, and laced with intricate historical details that bring the past to life, An Uncommon Woman will transport you to the picturesque and dangerous Western Virginia mountains of 1770.

A wonderful story of friendship!
I really enjoy listening to stories about my ancestors. I am part Shawnee and Cherokee. My heart goes out to both the Indians and the settles who paved the way for us today. I really liked the story. At times I felt it was to wordy but then I allowed myself to be lost in the pictures that were being painted. The narrator was extremely good and brought to life the characters of each individual.

Stay with it even when it’s kinda boring
I was getting tired of the shy coy flirting of some main characters and almost returned it. But I stayed with it and it got real interesting I’m very surprised the narrator who is native English speaker mispronounced several words that she should have known how to pronounce. I do appreciate the cleanest of the book. No profanity or Gratuitous sex scenes I will read more from this novelist

Wonderfully done. I felt like I was there.
This is a dramatic portrait of the heartache and hardships endured by the early settlers in Virginia Indian territory. The Swan family struggles to maintain their homestead and keep the family safe from attacks, kidnappings, or worse. Nearby Fort Tygart, run by Colonel Clayton Tygart is their only refuge. Part history, part adventure, part love story, this is a wonderful story of faith, friendship, and perseverance during wild, adventurous time in the history of America. History buffs, in particular, will enjoy this story. I listened to the audio version and narrator, Aimee Lilly, did a wonderful job with the many characters in this story. A real delight to listen to.

It was pretty good!
Good historical content which is my number one thing. Audible is not clear what books are Christian and I keep getting books and later finding they’re Christian which is not my number one thing. But sometimes I got swept up in the Swan family as though I was sitting at the dinner table with them and I really loved that! Many outbursts of Oh no! Or yay!

An Uncommon Woman
This book 📖, along with all of Laura Frantz’s books 📚 are Excellent! The narration by Aimee Lilly is perfect for this book. I thoroughly enjoyed learning so much about the culture & history of the area during this time period in history. It opened up a partial understanding of what the Indians and the white settlers had to endure. The author paints a beautiful picture with words of the area, the characters, their emotions and passions. Laura Frantz books are among my favorites. I hope that Laura Frantz continues to write many more wonderful books like “An Uncommon Woman” with Aimee Lilly narrating them. 📚📖
