great story..

Loved it just like nearly all Laura Frantz stories, but the narrator needs to learn some old words. "Gaol" is jail, and pronounced so, not "goal." This among other mispronounciations.

Twists and Turns

Set before the Revolutionary war. A young chocolatier and a privateer head into trouble on land and sea as they find their way back to each other. The whole family takes part. There is major sadness, and there is life.

Tender second chance romance

Twists and turns abound in this clean pre-American colonial romance. This tender love story is presented well.

Sweet(chocolate) Salty(evil) Enduring( love)

This book had all and more. I love how Mrs. Frantz captured the past as if she was once there in that timeframe. I bought the audiobook version which is better than watching TV. What a well written book! Worth the wait. 50 stars out of 5 😃

Very long story....too much as it takes away from the storyline. was a good story though.

I loved the characters in this eighteenth century novel. I could almost taste the chocolate!

I love Esme and Henri’s Story!

Beyond the beautiful book cover, this historical romance set in 18th century Virginia is a well written story that steals your heart from beginning to end. With a swoony sea captain, a beautiful chocolatier, and an island lighthouse, this second chance romance embraces all of the elements of a great love story while also including a host of historical details and a beautiful spiritual arc.

I read this book with both the ebook and audiobook and thoroughly enjoyed Barbara McCulloh’s interpretation of Henri and the other characters. Although she falls out of character here in there, her intonations and diction added an authentic flair to the story and gave life to a broad cast of characters.

This book is suitable for teens and older with no inappropriate intimate scenes and no bad language.
