Beautiful, Heart-wrenching, Dramatic

The narration of this beautiful, heart-wrenching story was magnificent!
Truly a dramatic tale, filled with breathtaking scenery from Scottish Isles to the Virginia Colonies and Jamaica.
Having grown up together and being schooled together despite the differences in station Lark and Laird Magnus first share a deep friendship. When tragedy strikes Lady Isla, wife of Magnus, Lark and Magnus find their lives forever changed.
Magnus is able to use his ties with a powerful friend to make things a little better for them both but they are still to be indentured servants to the man. There is so much more I wish I could say but I don't know how without giving spoilers.
The only reason this isn't a 5-star book for me was the ending. It was over too soon, I want to know more.

What an amazing story, I have not yet checked to see if there is a sequel? What a beautiful story of trials and tribulations in miraculous answers to prayer. One of the most beautiful Stories. I now love this author !!!

2nd time listening, still great

Such a lovely story. I listened to it as if it was my first time. I’m sure it won’t be my last. Narrator did such a wonderful job. Listening to her is better than watching tv. Of course I have to give thanks to the author Mrs. Laura Frantz. Thank you for your imagination in creating such great novels. Keep it coming.

What I'm lacking is a Bk 2, Laura!?

Excellent read. Very endearing. I would definitely recommend this book to others. would love to see this continued and make it a trilogy.

Narration

Excellent narration and unexpected plot twists. Really loved this book. It was written with captivating narration and well developed characters.

It was fine.

This was a lot of woe, and not a lot of excitement. While I appreciated the occasional message of faith, I found certain parts/characters completely unnecessary. I’m wondering if there will be a sequel to answer some unanswered questions, and stabilize things a bit in my mind. All in all, it’s a slow build but has its moments.

Great Book

Loved the book and the story. Wish there was more Christian Scottish books! I enjoyed this book and wish there was more.

Immersive experience! Enthralling Story!

My first read of 2024 and an automatic favorite. From the cliffs of Scotland to the stormy seas of the Atlantic to the Virginia Colony, nothing screams my favorite setting louder. And the narration by Aimee Lilly is easily the best I've ever heard!

Franz's beautiful prose and exquisite imagery had me in the pages. I could not put this one down. What a beautiful tale of love, patience, God's grace and faithfulness. His goodness is in each chapter and the Gospel is clearly stated.

Not only do I adore Lark and Magnus, but the supporting characters are such real and (mostly) loveable friends!

This was my first Laura Franz book and will certainly not be my last. I loved that she pulled from her own family tree for this and made the story so much more enthralling, if even possible! Would ABSOLUTELY love a Novella or more of the journey.

I HIGHLY recommend reading it along with listening to the audio book with Aimee Lilly- truly an immersive experience!

it was ok

the story was ok. it needs a sequel to fill it out.
it was a little far fetched.

how she got to America is believeable....but society taking her in like she's their equal, as she's an indentured servant is a stretch.

Lark and Magnus were supposed to be the main characters....but they barely spent any time in each other's company.

things just weren't fleshed out like they should have been. it was told like you would tell someone the high points of a story to get thru it faster.

I wouldn't have minded if I borrowed this book from the library....but I wouldn't have used a credit if i had know.

Once again my hours were filled with bliss and enjoyment as I was taken to another time and place .Laura Frantz and Aimee Lilly bring their expertise to like in this well written well told story ! Thank you for sharing your God given gifts with us !!
