He chose a class for ballrooms, not battlefields. Unfortunately, he got goblins instead of galas.
When college dropout Justin gets isekai'd to Eyrth, he chooses Socialite—a build designed for charm and persuasion—hoping he'll never have to fight a single monster.
At first, his plan works perfectly. A Paladin takes pity and gives him resources, he discovers he can actually flirt, and he lands his first job as a courier for the Royal Mail.
Then one delivery puts him on the radar of a powerful noble who wants to turn Justin into an undead servant.
Now he's fleeing through monster-infested wilderness with an adventuring party that thinks he's deadweight. But while they're swinging weapons, Justin is learning to weaponize his words, stunning enemies with insults, strutting to boost party morale, and even impersonating celebrities.
Through it all, Justin refuses to give up on his dream of returning to civilization and building a life far grander than anything back home. But to get there, he’ll have to use the Socialite class in ways it was never meant to be used… and set in motion a journey that could one day turn a "bad" class into something legendary.

WHOOOOO WEEEE that was a ride

His start is rough, he decides he wants to be a more likable person and chooses to be a Socialite. But almost nothing is given to him, he has to work to be more likable. One of his first trials -- to not pay double for a bath. He has to make a good argument for his case.
Much of the story is a case study for how to be more likable. Also, there's this baron related to his first job. The villains of this story are well done as well.
Great plot, great characters, great dialog, good system, great theme, good world-building. I really liked it. Highly recommended.
A great character study. What is charisma?

At first, Justin’s abilities feel like a cruel joke (a stunning ability that doesn’t deal damage), but as the story progresses, his social acumen becomes as powerful a weapon as any sword. Watching him grow from an antisocial shut-in to someone who can stand toe-to-toe with nobles, barons, and powerful adventurers is incredibly satisfying.
The worldbuilding is immersive, with dungeons (“vaults”), dangerous enemies, and a clear leveling system that feels like an MMORPG come to life. The supporting cast — Alistair the paladin, Eldrin the ranger, and Lila the bard — are well-rounded companions who help balance Justin’s weaknesses and highlight his strengths.
One of the most gripping elements is the looming threat of the Death Mark placed on Justin by Baron Valdrick. The tension around whether he can survive it, combined with clever use of charisma and rumor-spreading, makes for an exciting and unique climax.
If you enjoy LitRPGs, D&D-style adventures, or character-driven growth arcs, this book is well worth picking up. My only complaint? The audiobook series has been paused until more people get behind it, which is disappointing because I would love to keep experiencing this world in audio form.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5/5) — Highly recommended for fans of creative class systems, witty protagonists, and immersive fantasy worlds.

That said, I've read a lot of Kyle West's other books so I figured I would give this one a try, and I'm glad I did! It was dramatically better than I was anticipating, and I was immediately interested in the story and main character right from the start of the book. The stats and system that the book uses is integrated into the world, so that it feels like a logical extension of the story.
I hesitate to invoke the name of the great Brandon Sanderson, but honestly this book feels a bit like what he would create if he was to write a LitRPG. Perhaps not quite as much internal strife and character growth through horrible adversity as Sanderson, as most of the problems the character's face are physical or logistical rather than mental or emotional. But it even has the signature Sanderson style climactic end where the paradigm of the story shifts to make ready for the next book.
In short, this is an enjoyable story with good characters and excellent narration. If you are a fan of swords and sorcery style fantasy stories, or fans of the LitRPG genre, you can't go wrong with this book.
Dramatically better than I expected!
