INSPIRATION FOR THE NETFLIX SERIES DEPT. Q

Detective Carl Mørck and his colleagues Assad and Rose must use all of their resources to uncover the horrifying truth in this heart-pounding Nordic thriller from the #1 international bestselling author Jussi Adler-Olsen.

Carl Mørck holds in his hands a bottle that contains old and decayed message, written in blood. It is a cry for help from two young brothers, tied and bound in a boathouse by the sea. Could it be real? Who are these boys, and why weren’t they reported missing? Could they possibly still be alive?

Carl’s investigation will force him to cross paths with a woman stuck in a desperate marriage—her husband refuses to tell her where he goes, what he does, how long he will be away. For days on end she waits, and when he returns she must endure his wants, his moods, his threats. But enough is enough. She will find out the truth, no matter the cost to her husband—or to herself...

Critic reviews

Praise for The Absent One:

“Adler-Olsen, Denmark’s leading crime fiction author, outdoes his outstanding debut, The Keeper of Lost Causes, with his second Department Q novel.” —Publishers Weekly (starred review)
“Adler-Olsen has created a wonderful addition to the detective fiction genre in his sleuth….While the book can be read as a stand-alone novel, readers will be unable to resist seeking out and devouring the first and subsequent series titles.” — Library Journal (starred review)

Praise for The Keeper of Lost Causes:

“The pages fly by as the twisty puzzle unfolds. Stieg Larsson fans will be delighted.” —Publishers Weekly (starred review)

“[An] absorbing psychological thriller.” — Library Journal (starred review)

“Comparisons [to Stieg Larsson] are inevitable and, while he may lack a Salander, Adler-Olsen’s prose is superior to Larsson’s, his tortures are less discomfiting, and he has a sense of humor.”— Booklist (starred review)

“Plan on putting everything else in your life on hold if you pick up this book.” — The Oregonian

Detective Carl Mørck is as poorly served by everyone around him as he serves them back. Every member of this ensemble has a conscience, and an agenda that coates their ability to act like molasses. But then... that's what life does to all of us, it's just that Jussi Adler-Olsen pours more of the stuff over his stories than most of us wade through. That's what dramatic license's all about, right? And what builds tension and the slope of a story arc. Graeme Malcom's voices make the climb up the arc easy as levitating. Start this series at the beginning... but enjoy "A Conspiracy Of Faith".

A fine listen.

Darkly Good. Best Dept. Q So Far!

What made the experience of listening to A Conspiracy of Faith the most enjoyable?

I haven't finished it, and it's very well-written, but each hope seems to be crushed.... Over and over again.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes, and no. I kept wanting to go forward, because I want an okay ending

Which character – as performed by Graeme Malcolm – was your favorite?

Karl is always my favorite

This is a bit relentless

Searches for a good detective series after finishing Pendergast, Matthew Corbett , and Cormoron Strike series had ended. Many revirws say you can start with this but you should really begin with the first book, Keeper of lost causes dept Q.

Aaamazing book! Third book on the mark!

Things don't always go right for these characters but because they are the good guys you know they will find way. This series is a relief from the typical detective formula that make you feel like you're drinking weak lemonade. Each book has so many twists and turns that by the end I am exhausted.

The main character is more optimistic than Harry Bosch, a bit more social but equally flawed. The plot arcs spanning the series become more fascinating with each book. I can't wait for the next one.

Wonderfully complicated and exhausting

Hate for them to end! These books are the perfect marriage between author and narrator.

Great characters, great reading!
