The Tournament of the Sacred Sword sounded like exactly the type of thing Keras would enjoy: a series of challenges for thousands of contestants seeking a chance to fight for the Sacred Sword of Earth.
He knew there would be challenges. It wouldn’t be a high-stakes tournament without a few high-profile assassinations and mysterious murders, after all. But Keras wasn’t ready to run into someone from his homeland, and he certainly wasn’t prepared for the revelations that came from their confrontation.
Still reeling from the strange revelations of their meeting, Keras plunges back into the fight, preparing for the battle royale - a massive free-for-all contest outside of the scope of the standard tournament rounds. When the consequences of that match tear at the bonds between his allies, he’ll have to face new challenges alone.
Satoshi Muramasa, the strange swordsman from the distant kingdom of Artinia. Crown Princess Edria Song, the Wielder of Diamantine. Ishyeal Dawnsglow, the Wielder of Soulbrand.
When their blades clash, the heart of the world will tremble.

The powers were interesting and I really enjoyed watching as the characters grew and developed along. Not only their powers but their way of thinking and how they see the world.
Some of the “serious” interactions felt cringy when dealing with emotions. I’m not sure if it was because of how often Dawn seemed to be upset about something or he was having to tread lightly so not to hurt her. Maybe I didn’t think some of the topics were worth these feelings. There also didn’t seem to be a gradual build up. Suddenly things would be an issue and they would talk it out then simply continue fighting or doing whatever they were doing. Perhaps I want this to be more subtle actions and words till it’s thrown in my face making me realize what’s been going on.
Overall I think I enjoyed this book the most in the series. There are a lot of really fun characters and Andrew Rose isn’t afraid to be goofy. The items are all mostly interesting and we get a lot larger look at different magic and powers in the world. We also get a good look into the different forces, factions/powers, that are in play. The main characters backstory, journey, and for the most part, personality, are what you’d expect from a main character in an anime. But It honesty makes me love the character. The rest of the main characters are awesome too! Great job in making me laugh! Not many books accomplish that in such a way.
One of the more funny ones

I can see that Andrew has been watching some pitch meetings with Ryan, and that line made me laugh so hard.
My biggest issue with the book is it feels like the frame sets up a sadness and loss as if the story were more of a tragedy, yet the story doesn't deliver enough 'saddness', especially towards the end (then him having a party and now being alone is a good setup for the next story, but the frame at the start wasnt fully paid off, I feel)
everything I wanted and more
