Publisher's summary

High school is a monster, and it's eating everyone Robin knows. Discover the backstory of the new Stranger Things fan-favorite character Robin, played by Maya Hawke!

It's the beginning of sophomore year, and Robin's Odd Squad friends have decided: This time, they're going to fit in. They couple up, they won't stop talking about college and their future careers, and they're obsessed with trying to act "normal". Robin knows that game well - she's been pretending for years, hoping nobody would notice the sarcastic polyglot French horn player with a bad perm in the back of the room. But there's one aspect of her identity that she knows for sure doesn't fit in with her carefully controlled image - something she's only just now realizing: Robin likes girls.

How exactly is she supposed to be her true self in teeny-tiny Hawkins, Indiana? Robin is convinced the only way she can experience real life is by fleeing to Europe for the summer - a.k.a. Operation Croissant. But she has no money, no permission, and no one to share the adventure with - and it will take a heck of a lot more than that to escape Hawkins in one piece.

Sprinkled with references to your favorite Stranger Things characters, this prequel chronicles one girl's realization that the only person she really needs to be accepted by is herself.

No monsters. Other than the high school monster.

I adore Robin. I enjoyed the book. I enjoyed getting to know her. If you are looking for monsters you won’t find the supernatural kind…only the natural kind. Teens. Her path crosses with other Stranger Things characters but she is dealing with her own life and struggles. A coming of age type book and learning about yourself. The narrator kicked ass as Robin.

Loving these prequels

I love the backstories these novels give for different characters. Rebel Robin is a great one, with the narrator capturing her deadpan and sarcastic sense of humor perfectly, and she discovers her sexuality.

Not At All What I Expected

Fantastic Book! I came from the Rebel Robin Podcast Drama and it was not at all what I expected. This was a first introduction to Stranger Things for me and I do intend on watching the show now. I understand that the show is a bit more action packed, but if the story telling is just as good, I know I'll enjoy it.

I don't give five stars lightly

I was skeptical of this book when I bought it since it was a TV series tie in, but was surprised at the quality and wittiness of the writing. I found this to be very entertaining, insightful, and a great backstory for the character. I can't help but think that if this wasn't written as a TV series tie in that it would have been up for numerous young adult awards.

Pushing LGBTQ to much

You really don’t get into that aspect till toward the end super cringe, I had to stop reading as a heterosexual person , born in 1986. I have gay friends, and no problem, but this is way too much crazy.

Doesn't feel like Stranger Things

This book dives into Robin's story about trying to fit in and learning about her sexuality. This may interest you, but I found the way to was told to be very repetitive. I had hoped for more of the sci-fi/ mystery feeling of the shows, but only got a mediocre coming of age story.
