A great short talk with meaning

If you haven't read any of Tara's books before you should. This is short talk she have which plays she well into her other books on radical self acceptance. I found it a great way to start my morning as it reminded me I want perfect and what I needed to be aware of as I went through my day!

Tara Brach, PhD - Essential as Usual... Great!

Tara Brach's Book really hit the spot for me just in time. Self Acceptance. She knows Eastern Mysticism and it's value & Self Acceptance is Essential. Just when I was lying around doing nothing! "Aimlessness" (Buddhism).. Human Beings... Feeling mixed up about my Aimlessness! We'll all be doing Nothing sooner or Later! Materialism: live happily;
with death, all is annihilated

Wonderful, but you might want to buy the full book

My two cents: if you like Tara Brach, you might as well buy Radical Self-Acceptance instead of this. I bought both, and learned right away that this little gem is almost word-for-word the opening of the other book. But, if you just want a little gem, this is great!

Self compassion is a necessity

This was especially helpful to me as a person with both brain, and body, disabilities. Friends/family need to listen as well. Unfortunately, even most of family disappears
when we get too ill to be of use to them. A lot of overly responsible eldest children will get help from this.

I do want to say that I was disappointed in Tara Brach staying at a public retreat with a terrible virus, and possibly passing it on to others. That is not protecting the health of others.

Otherwise, good lessons about the shame fear of not being good enough.

Good ... but outdated

I love Tara Brach and have listened to lots of her books & podcasts. She's one of my favorite spiritual teachers. In this case, the example she uses to describe how we distract ourselves from feeling shame includes addiction - to substances (alcohol and cocaine are mentioned) and overeating. She mentions overeating several times.

Current wisdom would likely refer to issues with food, including a wide range of disordered eating. I was playing this with my teens in the room and her repeated example isn't how I've taught them to think about food. In the future I'll play some of her more recent works instead.
