Good Narration...Good Book

Actually, I’m surprised this book hasn’t been read by more people. I like Alice Coldbreath’s writing. Yes, there’s sex, yes, there’s intrigue. It’s well done with humor. I plan to read more of her work.

Sweet Historical Romance

Summary: Bad feelings between the northern and southern part of a country. Weddings are matched by families wealth, position, and making alliances by marriage between thr former warring factions- Thus begins our story of a man from the north made to marry a women from the south in order to get out of prison. Our hero signs the proxy bride papers but for four years never goes to get his bride. She was married by proxy when she was 17 to a 70 yr old man who died, then later to a dying man and third now our hero. She is now 24 years old and is tired of waiting an goes off to find her third husband. The reader was Anne Flosnick and she was very good. Overall the story was interesting but long. It could have been cut down a bit. But still different and well worth a listen.

Not as good as the others

I just discovered Mrs. Cold breath with the prizefighter series. I loved all of those books and I was excited to continue with her into a new series of books but I must say this book felt phoned in and the heroin was at times annoying. I am disappointed but I will keep checking her out. I hope the next book will be better.

a bit slow to start but a very funny and tender tale.

at first the narrator voice annoyed me but after a time I got used to it. I'm glad I stuck with this story. it was just so sweet and quite amusing. highly recommend!

Not what I was expecting

I started listening to this book mainly because I had read she would crossdress as a boy to travel across the country and I was excited to hear about that journey. Unfortunately the book completely skipped over that part, which I think would have been very entertaining, and had her immediately show up at his doorstep. I decided to continue with the book and ended up liking it anyway, but I still think it would have been better if we got to follow along on that particular adventure. After all, she changed so much as a person as she traveled and became less timid and more confident. The book could have gone back and forth between whatever he was doing at the time and her as she traveled and wondered what he would be like and look like etc. to build it up a bit before they finally met. Oh well.

Wed by Proxy By Alice Coldbreath ~ This book completely swept me away! Alice Coldbreath creates such a vivid, heartfelt historical romance that feels both fresh and authentic. The story of Mercy and her unexpected marriage arrangement had me hooked from the very beginning. Mercy’s journey from uncertainty to strength was beautifully written, and the chemistry between her and Kit was slow-burning, tender, and so rewarding to read. What I especially loved was how the author balanced the romance with real emotional depth—family ties, duty, and the struggles of finding one’s place in the world. By the end, I found myself completely invested in their happily-ever-after. Highly recommend if you love strong heroines, slow-burn romance, and historical detail woven seamlessly into the plot.

Great book

Amazing storyline, really great characters, and it was 1 of the best books I've read..

Entertaining plot and steamy romance

Some might find it slow but I appreciate the character building and the restraint that makes the romance feel more real. The spice is there and explicit but not gratuitous, a perfect grumpy/shunshine. The insipid voice the narrator uses for the FMC does a disservice to the character and the story but it doesn’t wholly overshadow the experience.

Pretty good!

I'm not sure this book is meant to be taking place in accurate history, but the time period one should envision is probably the Middle Ages. It's a nice story and a great romance, but I definitely had a difficult time with how Guy (sp?) was handling things. When the old crone took matters into her own hands, the story is redeemed.

NARRATION: Though I feel like I have heard Alice Coldbreath's voice before (like in commercials or perhaps she has done some minor acting work), this is the first time I've heard her narrate. She was fine, though I thought her voice was a bit mature sounding for the character.

A little too long

For me, this book was too long. The storyline was fine, but could have moved along a little faster. I finished this book because I always finish them. However, it was one that I could pick up & put down or listen between other books.
