A must listen/read!

Luke Daniels performance makes for a great listening experience. The story is also very captivating and brought to life thanks to Luke. I will be continuing the series!

Kept me listening all the way!

I would not call the book riveting but it is well written with great characters.
I think what made me like the book so much is because of what was missing....and thank you so much Rhett!

So what is missing? The apparent need to turn drama up to 11 that is rampant in both books and video these days and you know what? The book was a lot better for it.

Sure there is plenty of action but it is actually somewhat believable, as much as fantasy can be.

Thank you also to Luke for changing it up a bit. Enjoyed the changes you made.

Great World Building

What I find myself most impressed with when finding great fantasy is the things that differentiate stories. In this first volume the authors have created a world that's familiar enough that the reader/listener can feel welcomed, but with enough originality to mark it as different and interesting.

The characters are great, fully fleshed out with realistic traits and making realistic decisions. The settings are brought to life as well, each coming to life easily enough that I could close my eyes and envision them. Listening to this felt like joining friends on an adventure moreso than listening to an audiobook.

At this point it's necessary to mention the narration by Luke Daniels. I came into it knowing that he's a very well-respected voice actor and this definitely does nothing to change that. He does the work to take the written words and bring the characters to life. The accents are great and easy to recognize and just from listening you can discern more information like what their emotions are and context ques about the current scenario.

I really enjoyed this work, and am definitely planning on returning to this world with these authors. I received the code for this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this honest review. Highly recommended.

a story without a main character

about half way into this book i realized that I was still waiting for the moment hen i would know who the story was about. But the story is not about either if the two main characters. they are just players in the bigger theme. So there really isnt a main charcter is this book. We follow two characters - one endearing and the other a self obsessed fanatic with no sense of honor. But never does either one ever reveal themselves to be the one to identify with - the one that will grow. So the book is a little like life - no clear map, no clear goal - just things happening and the world and a couple (now 3) characters who are swimming through.

The vigilant Eye of Iam.

Not usually a fan of Fantasy stories but one with an enormous respect for the individual halves of author Jamie Castle, this reader decided to give this new, series starting with Web of Eyes, a try - and loved it. So much so that, when this audio version became available, I requested and was freely gifted a complimentary copy by the rights holder.

Although Web of Eyes follows the usual sort of questing of more conventional fantasy books, this storyline is so fresh and full of ironic humour, it is easy to see it as a parody of the genre. The once strong king is dead, the heir a sickly child kept hidden from his peoples, a wicked uncle, and war. Who can save the kingdoms of Pantego? Why, a defrocked Wearer of White, the onetime King's Shield, and a self opinionated thief, dug out of the dungeons for stealing the Glass. crown, of course.
The Audiobook is narrated by the mostly excellent Luke Daniels. He certainly excels in definite and distinctive voicing for all of his characters. But here I found myself glad to have already read the text version as his exuberant portrayal of the thief, Whitney Fierstorm, was, for this reader, over hyper, becoming both irritating and sometimes hard to understand, so that much of the humour was missed. In every other way, though, a fine performance.

Well written, as would be expected, great characters, easy to read, find world building, and absolutely hilarious. I might even become a convert to the genre. Certainly, I look forward to book two. But will probably return to the written word again, rather than the audio.

Excellent start to the series

Based just on The Luna Missle Crisis, I purchased the whole Buried Goddess series. Book 1 did not let me down. What a great start to the series. Rhett Bruno and Jaime Castle understand audiobooks with their selection of Ray Porter (Luna) and Luke Daniels (Buried Goddess). The narrator is at least as important as what is in the book. Luke Daniels does his usual masterful job.

Voices were awful

So, the narrator ruined this book for me. The voice he used for the main thief character (who imo is hard to like regardless) was intolerable. The narrator tried I suppose but it was close to sabotage. I found myself rooting for the closed-minded, bigoted warrior simply because I loathed the thief's every word. Not a horrific story though, I managed to muscle through...I will not be buying the next in the series, no thanks.

The first book I've ever gotten into.

I've never gotten into a book, but this narrator does amazing voices and the story flows well.
10/10 would recommend this book to anyone interested in a action fantasy esc book.

Enjoyed the Story

The good - Luke Daniels is entertaining. The overall story is good as well. There were times I had to slog through wishing the story would move a bit faster, but it always came back around.

Fantasy As It Should Be

This is a fantastic combination of great writing and superb narration. The intro runs smoothly into a series of adventures and fun. The characters show clear development during this period and leave us wanting more. I found that the humor was right up my street and often laughed out loud at their adventures.
