The Future is Emotionally Intelligent

From two early childhood experts, an essential guidebook that empowers parents to help their little ones navigate their big feelings—including tantrums, outbursts, and separation anxiety—while laying the groundwork for a lifetime of emotional intelligence.

We’re in the midst of a parenting revolution that is radically changing the way we raise our kids. Gone are the days of minimizing emotions: Don’t Cry. You’re Fine. Don’t Make a Scene. As our understanding of developing brains has increased, today’s parents are looking for a new way to help their children understand their feelings and learn to process them.

Emotional development experts Alyssa Blask Campbell, M.Ed. and Lauren Stauble M.S. are at the forefront of a movement to foster little ones’ emotional intelligence. Their revolutionary Collaborative Emotion Processing (CEP) method has been a game changer for parents and educators, and now they are sharing it with readers in this indispensable guide.

Tiny Humans, Big Emotions provides the tools to tackle every sort of stressful child-rearing situation, including:

• What to do when your child throws a tantrum (it's not what you think!)

• Helpful scripts to handle any challenging moment like school refusal and bedtime resistance

• How to react when your child hits, punches, or bites

• Easy tips that help regulate your child’s nervous system

• How to anticipate and end meltdowns before they even begin

Designed for all humans—tiny and big—this book shows caregivers of children how to handle their children’s outbursts while empowering them to recognize and manage difficult feelings like anger, sadness, and shame, along with anxiety. All caregivers will find valuable insights and guidance in this book, especially those caring for children from infancy to age eight. Tiny Humans, Big Emotions equips adults with tools for emotional intelligence so they can respond with intention. This innovative, research-based approach teaches children self-regulation and empathy, even as it strengthens the parent-child relationship, setting the groundwork for a lifetime of emotional resilience and wellbeing.

This book is an essential, empathetic guide that will teach parents to notice their own habits and hold space for their tiny human's big emotions.

You only have so much time to read so many books about parenting and for yourself if you’re an avid reader. Let this be one of them. It’s an incredibly encouraging book for you to navigate the emotional struggles of parenthood that we all face and that your little ones will face. I read this book when my daughter was 2 1/2 and I’m forever relieved that I did. You are an awesome parent and your toddler or child deserves the even more awesome parent that will benefit from reading this book. The Audible voice over makes the book better and so reassuring.

For me, the important take away was that these first few years are the most important and impactful in setting up an emotionally healthy, confident and mentally stable person. The way you talk to your babies right now will become their inner voice and that- I’m not a mean or angry Mom- knowledge empowered me to be a more present, loving, patient, and kind person to the only child I will have. My mess ups in parenting are mendable and so are yours. Being a good parent is hard and sometimes your frustration shows. This book is for YOU too.

This shouldn’t be the only parenting book you read, but it absolutely has to be one of them! Good luck, parents! I’m rooting for you!

Alyssa is a wonderful narrator. The book feels like you are just getting advice from a super smart friend over coffee! The layout of the book and the content is very clear, easy to follow and not at all boring or dry. They provide plenty of real examples that put “raising emotionally intelligent kids” into practice with clear strategies and techniques. Easy read, excellent and applicable information that can be used right away!

i’m in the trenches of raising kids and running an in home daycare.. i was finding myself burnt out and exhausted from juggling the needs of all the tiny humans around me each day. as i worked my way thru the book i’ve began using cep and it’s truly amazing to see they’re brains come back online and see that you are understanding them. there’s still tantrums, there always will be, but we’re communicating better and working towards emotional intelligence. THANK YOU!!!

Such a wonderfully written book. I was searching for a book on how to best respond to and support my 18 m/o during tantrums. This wasn’t helpful for itty bitty toddlers but definitely for older toddlers who can mostly carry on a conversation. As a school social worker and psychotherapist I didn’t learn anything new; however, it encouraged me to start using emotion cards early with my little one and I can recommend this to parents and teachers I work with who might struggle with regulation. I was hoping for more scenarios where things didn’t go perfectly according to plan, but overall great book.

Good pointers for preschool parents and teachers

I really liked the writing and reading style that came across as a friend bringing a new, well-thought out idea to me. I’m starting it implement these suggestions and already see some changes in myself and my family. I look forward to continued implementation and referring back to the book.

I think this may change my life!

The techniques really work! I’m planning to buy the physical book so I can easily refer to the steps and CEP cards. Would refer to this over and over again.

GREAT parenting book!!!
