Resumen del Editor

Today millions of kids are stuck in a world that doesn't respect, support, or embrace who they really are - these are what Deborah Reber is calling the “differently wired” kids, the one in five children with ADHD, dyslexia, Asperger’s, giftedness, anxiety, sensory processing disorder, and other neurodifferences. Their challenges are many. But for the parents who love them, the challenges are just as hard - struggling to find the right school, the right therapist, the right parenting group while feeling isolated and harboring endless internal doubts about what’s normal, what’s not, and how to handle it all.

But now there’s hope. Written by Deborah Reber, a best-selling author and mother in the midst of an eye-opening journey with her son who is twice exceptional (he has ADHD, Asperger’s, and is highly gifted), Differently Wired is a how-to, a manifesto, a book of wise advice, and the best kind of been-there, done-that companion.

On the one hand it’s a book of saying NO, and how it’s time to say no to trying to fit your round-peg kid into society’s square holes, no to educational and social systems that don’t respect your child, no to the anxiety and fear that keep parents stuck. And then it’s a book of YES. By offering 18 paradigm shifts - what she calls “tilts” - Reber shows how to change everything. How to “Get Out of Isolation and Connect.” “Stop Fighting Who Your Child Is and Lean In.” “Let Go of What Others Think.” “Create a World Where Your Child Can Feel Secure.” “Find Your People (and Ditch the Rest).” “Help Your Kids Embrace Self-Discovery.” And through these alternative ways of being, discover how to stay open, pay attention, and become an exceptional parent to your exceptional child.

Editorial Review

You don’t need me (or anyone else) to remind you that parenting is a full-time job with full time challenges. For parents of kids who are differently wired, every challenge is multiplied. It’s not just finding the right afterschool activity, it’s finding one that will embrace and respect what a child with ADHD, anxiety, or other neurodifferences will bring to the group. With practical and compassionate advice, Debbie Reber (mom and founder of TiLT Parenting) is on a mission to help parents change the rules so they can be the exceptional parents their exceptional children need. —Heather S., Audible Editor

Inspirational

I related so much to Deborah and Asher' s story and found so much inspiration in knowing that tilting my perspective as a parent and leaning in, we could find the right path for our differently wired girl. I highly recommend this book to any parents who are struggling to find the right path for their differently wired child.

Mom to a 7 year boy with ADHD

This book was exactly what I was looking for. This speaks to the struggles of being a parent to a differently wired child and helps with coping with it. It gave me security in what I am doing for my son and encouragement to continue the fight. It helps you recognize what is not and what is. Much love for this book! Definitely recommended!

EXCELLENT!!!

It makes me reflect on my own school-life, that of our kids, and all that we did wrong!

If only we had read this book 50 years ago…!!

Thank you! Am sure that many parents and kids will benefit from it now!

great read for parents of not so typical kids

An uplifting and encouraging read for parents of "differently wired" kids (ADHD, ASD, gifted, 2e, LD, anxiety, depression, etc.). As a psychologist who works with differently wired kids, I found this to be a gentle guide for parents toward accepting, understanding, and supporting their children, as well as an opportunity to realize they are not alone.

Incredibly helpful for all kinds of neurodiversity

I'll admit this book sat in my library for many, many months before I finally tackled it, but I am so very glad that I did. At some point I had gotten the idea that maybe the focus was on twice exceptional, "2E," kids. I am happy to report this is not at all the case, despite the author's son's 2E status. As a mom of two autistic kids (and one tbd) with many varied abilities, but a lot of academic and other struggles, I still found the advice and perspective shifts immensely helpful. At the same time as my middle child's "ASD level 3" diagnosis, I was also diagnosed with "level 1" autism (formerly Asperger's), and I anticipate using many of the strategies in my own life as well as my kids'. Truly cannot recommend this listen highly enough. This is my first time writing a review, it's so good!!

Great information and insights!

We are just starting on this path with our grandson and this book is so helpful in showing us a path already walked. It may not be the same one we walk but it is so great to have some insight before we start! Thank you Deborah and Asher for sharing!

Should have purchased sooner!

I have been a follower of Debby Reber's podcast at Tilt Parenting for a while, and love all the content there. After absorbing all the content available on her website I needed more, and this was book was just the thing. I only wish I would have purchased this book sooner. As a mother of two Twice Exceptional kiddos (and I suspect being an undiagnosed 2E person myself) this book truly plays on my heartstrings. I feel more connected, more in tune and more confident in my children and myself. My son has been listening to this audio book as well, and he also is loving it for the relatability. It is truly a must read!

Good content.

Took some time for me to get use to the authors voice. It was a little whiny I felt. However, the content provided was right on the money. I related with just about everything she said. My son is twice exception w/ADHD. Híghky gifted but lacks impulse control.
I didn't care too much about the self promoting that was an occurring theme in the book. I could get that information in references or sources. I really didn't care to hear about books the author also wrote while trying to get through my first book of hers.
Overall good book, I would recommend. I already told my husband he has to read it too.
