Acerca de esta escucha
Stop the yelling, lose the guilt, and become a calmer, happier parent.
Drawing on evidence-based practices, here is an insight-packed and tip-filled plan for how to stop the parental meltdowns. Its compassionate, pragmatic approach will help listeners feel less ashamed and more empowered to get their, ahem, act together instead of losing it.
“Using a powerful combination of humor and reality checks, Naumburg helps parents unpack their unique stressors (we all have them) and find ways to stay calm even the most frustrating of family moments.” (Katie Hurley, LCSW, author of No More Mean Girls and The Happy Kid Handbook)
“By the end not only are you laughing out loud, but you’ve gained a sense of self-compassion and a concrete action plan.” (Rebecca Schrag Hershberg, PhD, author of The Tantrum Survival Guide)

Of course you think you’re doing a shitty job. Every parent does. It’s pretty much a byproduct of our society, with its incessant demands coupled with the in-your-face competitiveness parents see on social media. Unfortunately, the pandemic only made things worse, as parents juggled the stresses of helping their kids navigate online schooling while they also had to work from home. Rather, explosive kids are lacking some crucial skills in the domains of flexibility/adaptability, frustration tolerance, and problem solving, and they require a different approach.

Highlighting the fascinating link between a child’s neurological development and the way a parent reacts to misbehavior, No-Drama Discipline provides an effective, compassionate road map for dealing with tantrums, tensions, and tears - without causing a scene. Defining the true meaning of the “d” word (to instruct, not to shout or reprimand), the authors explain how to reach your child, redirect emotions, and turn a meltdown into an opportunity for growth.

Historia
Dr. Ross Greene, a distinguished clinician and pioneer in the treatment of kids with social, emotional, and behavioral challenges, has worked with thousands of explosive children, and he has good news: these kids aren't attentionseeking, manipulative, or unmotivated, and their parents aren't passive, permissive disciplinarians. Rather, explosive kids are lacking some crucial skills in the domains of flexibility/adaptability, frustration tolerance, and problem solving, and they require a different approach.

While there are no bad kids, more often than not, there are also no bad parents. Where parents tend to go wrong lies in their discipline methods. Poor behavior from kids can drive any parent crazy, but reacting based on emotions can be the worst foundation for discipline. So why not try a different approach?

Dude. this book was all around great.
yes, you are going to hear the word s*** a lot. do I do my best to not use all the squares? yes, but do I still use all the swears? yes. all swears aside... this book is chock full of advice, scientific evidence, encouragement, and excellent tips on how to keep a level head with your kids... all blended with the just the right amount of humor. honestly, this will benefit all your relationships in general, not just your kids. I enjoyed it so much I asked my 14-year-old son to listen to it so that he might have an understanding of all the things we parents are juggling and that we don't want to lose it with our then and some of the reasons that we do. I highly recommend listening to/reading this one.

This book was helpful
Don’t listen to the negative reviews. Seems like they didn’t make it through the book. This book is so helpful for not only improving your relationship with your children. But also can be applied to other relationships in your life.
The added humor to this book makes it easier to listen to and to admit to not pleasant truths about yourself.

Perfect!
A really great reminder. I know I need to take care of myself in order to keep my cool with my kids. Dr. Naumburg gives examples of what to do to take care of myself and examples of how to *not* yell at my kids by doit literally anything else. Loved it! Will likely revisit it or the bonus recap chapter at the end.

Good principles but young child examples
The principles in this book are based on sound research and are communicated in a simple and easy to understand way. They do generally apply to most relationships. The author has years of work as a social worker. But I did not fully appreciate that almost all her examples are for younger children, like her children’s ages. I had far less of an issue when my children were younger versus when they are teenagers. I suspect I am not alone in this. I would have liked if she had brought in a more balanced set of application and examples. Teens, for example, do not need help tying their shoes, but the conflict can be more complex.
Also, I am not offended by bad language. Obviously, or I would not have bought this book. But there is a ridiculous amount of cursing used. Either the author speaks like this normally, and changes her language around her children. Or she is adding an abundance to communicate with the “parent to parent” vibe. I think it could’ve been even more effective with less of that language.
