Resumen del Editor

Most of us know what it feels like to fall under the spell of food - when one slice of pizza turns into half a pie, or a handful of chips leads to an empty bag. But it's harder to understand why we can't seem to stop eating - even when we know better. When we want so badly to say "no," why do we continue to reach for food?

Dr. David Kessler, the dynamic former FDA commissioner who reinvented the food label and tackled the tobacco industry, now reveals how the food industry has hijacked the brains of millions of Americans. The result? America's number-one public health issue.

Dr. Kessler cracks the code of overeating by explaining how our bodies and minds are changed when we consume foods that contain sugar, fat, and salt. Food manufacturers create products by manipulating these ingredients to stimulate our appetites, setting in motion a cycle of desire and consumption that ends with a nation of overeaters. The End of Overeating explains for the first time why it is exceptionally difficult to resist certain foods and why it's so easy to overindulge. Dr. Kessler met with top scientists, physicians, and food industry insiders.

The End of Overeatinguncovers the shocking facts about how we lost control over our eating habits - and how we can get it back. Dr. Kessler presents groundbreaking research, along with what is sure to be a controversial view inside the industry that continues to feed a nation of overeaters - from popular brand manufacturers to advertisers, chain restaurants, and fast-food franchises. For the millions of people struggling with weight as well as for those of us who simply don't understand why we can't seem to stop eating our favorite foods, Dr. Kessler's cutting-edge investigation offers new insights and helpful tools to help us find a solution. There has never been a more thorough, compelling, or in-depth analysis of why we eat the way we do.

You will question what you eat and why forever

A great book that will change the way you approach food and think about food, how it is made, how the industry makes money off of you, and why you eat what you eat.

I have referred multiple friends to this book and it has changed my relationship with food and the industry as a whole.

A little too descriptive

In the first half of this book, the writer extensively describes how the food industry markets and designs food to tempt us. The unfortunate side effect for me (which goes to prove his point) was that I became obsessed with food while listening to the first part of this book, and I overate compulsively as a result! Eventually I stopped the book for a week or two, let myself break away and stop overeating, and finally came back and finished listening to it. Overall the book does not provide any great new breakthrough of how to eat well or manage overeating, but it suggests reliable and perhaps under-utilized methods.

Makes Me Think Twice About Eating Out

If you want a reason to stop eating at chain restaurants, this is it! Well written, well read book about all the things restaurants do to make us eat more and come back. Whether you like it or not, it will change the way you view food.

A must read

This book really held my attention with knowledge, humor and amazing insight. You can tell the author put a lot of time and effort into his writing. The book is long so I’m glad I got it on audible. It’s packed with valuable information. Not statistics but stories used as examples. I really learned a lot and found this book worth every penny. I highly recommend. Actually this was recommended to me so glad I gave it a try. If your struggling with trying to stay on a diet the information will help you view food in a different way. The author did the research all you need to do is listen and learn. I’m so excited by this book I’m going to listen to it all over again and this time take notes. Worth the read if you want to stop over eating and making food so important in your life.

Great Science, Little Implementation

The book is a fountain of great science and information on why we, as a country are fat, and getting fatter. It is not too hard to follow, and based on what (to a layman) seems like solid analysis of real scientific research. It is long, and goes on for many chapters, somewhat hitting you again and again with facts that are by the mid point, understood. The shortfall is that there is very little provided to cope with the problems the book presents. Perhaps there will be a follow on book, or perhaps others will provide solutions and coping techniques based on the research in Dr. Kesslers book. Overall though I HIGHLY recommend for anyone who has struggled, or struggles with weight, poor diet habits, or both.

Great “read” ...Definitely worth a “re-read!”

I liked the detail… I liked the scientific studies… I liked the practical information… I like the fact that the author himself has struggled with over eating… I like the fact that he shows that answers are available… Even though the path is not that easy… I have read this book at least twice, and I see myself coming back to it again… Especially after I have digested more of the content and made personal applications. Five stars for sure!***** The reader is quite good…As with most audible books as well as many audio blogs, I find I had to listen to it on 1.25 speed… Because the 1X is always too slow for my particular taste.

Great info

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This wasn't an exciting listen, but the information was very good, and nicely presented. If you are interested in what is driving the obesity epidemic, and the science behind overeating, this is a good read for you.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The End of Overeating?

The end was the best, when he wrapped everything up and talked about what to do with the information

Any additional comments?

Excellent Research. Gets to the bottom of why we are getting fat. Deserves 5 starts. It is not however, a quick weight loss plan. The book gives you a new way to start thinking about food. On this new path the weight loss will come.
