Resumen del Editor

Discover the innovative intersection of somatic therapy and Internal Family Systems (IFS), featuring 5 core practices to transform modern therapeutic approaches.

Enhance your clinical practice and patient outcomes by skillfully uniting body and mind through an evidence-based therapeutic modality—endorsed by leaders in the field, including Richard Schwartz.

Somatic Internal Family Systems Therapy introduces a cutting-edge therapeutic modality that merges the elements of somatic therapy, such as movement, touch, and breathwork, with the established principles of the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model. Authored by Susan McConnell, this multifaceted approach is crafted for therapists, clinicians, somatic practitioners, mental health professionals, and anyone interested in innovative healing techniques. A valuable contribution to mental health treatment, this guide offers a new horizon for those engaged in the well-being of others.

This comprehensive, bestselling guide presents:

  • 5 core practices: somatic awareness, conscious breathing, radical resonance, mindful movement, and attuned touch, designed for seamless integration into therapeutic work.
  • Strategies to apply these practices in addressing a range of clinical conditions including depression, trauma, anxiety, eating disorders, chronic illness, and attachment disorders.
  • Techniques to assist clients in identifying, understanding, and reconciling their 'inner worlds' or subpersonalities, leading to improved emotional health and behavior.
  • A compelling combination of scientific insights, experiential practices, and real-world clinical stories that illuminate the theory and application of Somatic IFS.

Highly regarded mental health professionals, such as IFS founder Richard Schwartz, have applauded this essential guide. By weaving together holistic healing wisdom, modern neuroscience, and somatic practices expertise, this book serves as a crucial resource for psychotherapists across various disciplines and laypersons seeking an embodied self.

Reseñas de la Crítica

“I am very honored and excited that Susan McConnell has finally written this book that brings all of her wisdom from years of somatic study and practice to the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model.”—Richard Schwartz, PhD, founder of Internal Family Systems therapy and the IFS Institute

“Susan McConnell brilliantly weaves together science, clinical stories, and experiential practices to bring Somatic IFS to life for her reader. The deep wisdom she embodies from years of studying the bodymind is felt in each of the five practices that are the foundation of Somatic IFS and in her clear yet lyrical explanation of the body systems that inform each practice. McConnell is an expert guide to learning to listen to somatic stories and finding the way to Embodied Self.”—Deb Dana, LCSW, author of The Polyvagal Theory in Therapy

“Referencing many other body-oriented practices, therapists, and researchers, this book offers an up-to-date, pragmatic method of working somatically with people: a methodology which other psychotherapists—especially those from non-somatic disciplines—can readily learn from.”—Courtenay Young, UK body psychotherapist, editor of the International Journal of Psychotherapy

Inclusive bridge to selves

I found myself first resistant and then embodied by the concepts. This book has introduced me to the varied vulnerable parts hiding in my own physical being. Thank you for this eclectic spiritual practice I find that it resonates with so many disciplines. I am a better therapist as I apply your words to my practice. . Peace.

Game changer!

I’ve been doing bodywork for 20 + years and have been studying how to heal trauma held in the body for years. This combines so much of what I’ve learned and added to it in such an exciting way. Very healing personally as well. This is the book I’ve been waiting for!

Fantastic book!

A wonderful guide to the ever growing field of body psychotherapy and IFS. I recently discovered Internal Family Systems therapy and it has been very helpful and life changing. I’ve also studied and participated in body psychotherapy for over 16 years so this book has been a wonderful gift in combining these two fields.

Fantastic and very thorough read

As an intimacy and relationship coach with a wealth of trauma-informed training, a former licensed massage therapist and one who has been in many ways a Buddhist his whole life without ever actually being one, I’ve developed an uncommon and diverse understanding of healing and found that there are very few people, organizations or resources that bring together all the critical components of healing well. But Susan McConnell knocked this book straight out of the park and into another dimension with Somatic Internal Family Systems. After reading this book, it’s clear to me I need to train with this woman. Highly recommend the book to literally any human being who cares to understand how we heal, connect with one another or shift consciousness on this planet.

Fantastic Listen

Fantastic book to listen to and learn from. As an IFS and somatic experience therapist, the exercises, knowledge and case examples shared were just what I needed.

Not worth the time or $$$

Def struggled to finish this one! Longwinded way to say very little...no solid take aways or insight. Also, many mispronounced medical terms were annoying to have to listen to!!! Not worth the $$$.

I can't do it

Can't get through it. I would really love to know this information. I think it's probably good science. But my gosh, the author thinks she is a novelist with the little anecdotes and flowery language. Just give us the information. I cannot do it, I keep trying, but I'm finally giving up after months.

Narrator made it worse

The introduction itself felt like listening to an insecure child trying to prove, in a bragging manner, why they're worth listening to. It felt like the author needed to do more parts work herself. I dont know if that impression came from the tone of the narrator or from the text itself, but I found myself cringing even from the start.

I only got a third of the way through the book and wanted to return my purchase because not only was the text scattered, but the narrator could not pronounce "fascia" for the life of her. In one chapter she pronounced it three different ways- all incorrect. The book itself might have value for a therapist seeking to learn more about Somatic therapy integrated with IFS, but the presentation distracted from any potential value for me.
